Please help me find skirt for beach

Having not mastered the art of sarong tying, and because of the inability to look elegant wearing one while chasing after a toddler, I am on the hunt for a skirt I could wear to the beach over a swimsuit.

I am not tall so don't usually wear very long skirts because they swamp me. I used to have a lovely little wraparound cotton job from Next but it is long gone Sad

I am not keen on shorts because of charming 4 x C-Sections overhang and I always get a week of periods on my holidays (lovely!) so said skirt could be a bit of a cover-up.

I would love to see your suggestions, thank you Smile

Hopeful bump to anyone who can help, please?

I wish I could help - I usually use a dress rather than a skirt for the beach cover-up needs. And yes, why do holidays always, always involve periods? You'd think with the law of averages or whatever you'd get a summer holiday fortnight without a period once in a while but no, that never happens.

They are hard to find, aren't they?
I used to have a really nice one from M&S that's still in the loft but much too small

Have you thought about making one? It would be quite simple. Possible pattern here

this is lovely but a bit long?

have you thought about a playsuit? it would give you good coverage and you could run around still?

I wonder if one of these would work. You could possibly fold over the waist band if it was too long as a skirt.

ERM.. Would you go for a beach dress... There are some good options on Uniqlo ( can't link on phone), just that skirts look a bit odd (IMHO) with swimmers. Asos have some good cotton beach dresses too.

Bombinate · 21/05/2015 21:13

Id get a jersey dress, really easy to whip off and protects you from the sun if you need it

Thank you very much for your replies and suggestions. I think the skirt thing could be difficult so I've ordered these two dresses from Next for starters:

www.next.co.uk/g9d48s6#650643g24
and
www.next.co.uk/x5d2224s3#972263x55

These should do the job and they suit my budget. I don't get an opportunity to wear beach style clothing except for the two weeks we go abroad. It is rarely hot enough here to wear this kind of gear (also I'm a bit shy and self conscious) so I'd rather keep my money for clothes I'll get more use out of!

Again, thank you Smile
