Looking for a beautiful new watch

GatoNaranja · 18/05/2015 16:48

Can anyone help?

I am looking for a lovely new watch, budget up to £300.

I like elegant yet quite solid, slightly chunky designs.

Silver, with some electric blue and or crystals (subtle) would be great. Even better would be a watch that also looks Like a silver bangle /bracelet

Sorry about grammar - it's impossible to make corrections on the phone ap!!

I love the Skagen designs -though i'm not sure if they'd be chunky enough for you

NipSlip · 18/05/2015 19:38

Michael Kors.

rockybalboa · 18/05/2015 23:03

I also love Skagen. My watch is a beautiful white ceramic one, I absolutely love it.

Want2bSupermum · 18/05/2015 23:48

I am on my third skagen watch and have given up now. They last me about two years and cost too much to repair.

For your budget I would look at Tissot. Also I really like the Larson & Jennings watches. The strap is easily switched which I love.

GatoNaranja · 19/05/2015 07:23

Thanks for your advice!

You're right Finbar - Skagen aren't chunky enough for me but I might go and take a look at them IRL.

Thanks for the tissot advice, will check them out.

Not sure about Michael Kors - is he a fashion designer or a watchmaker? I always had him down as a designer that does clothes and perfumes arc... His watches are ok but I am concerned about their quality!
I have a rotary watch at the mo - it's great and I've had it about five years. It needed a battery change once but I don't think it cost much. I quite like the look of citizen . Has anyone tried them?

Tissot and citizen lovely watches.

I had a Marc Jacobs Amy watch given to me at Christmas and it's silver and chunky and I love it. I don't have to wear any other bracelet when I wear it. And it feels comfy in my wrist (non watch wearer before). Not sure how long it will last though.

GatoNaranja · 19/05/2015 08:12

Thanks Smile, that is a nice watch. ??

As is the case with Michael Kors I'm hesitant about Marc Jacobs simply because in reflection I'd rather buy from a 'purely watches' brand.

I have this Citizen one and I love it. It's also much prettier in real life than the picture.

RecoveringPerfectionist · 19/05/2015 09:07

I have a Fossil watch which I love and often people comment on it. I've had it three years so far and have not had any issues at all. Below your budget, but you could get two :-)

That's very pretty Dumpylump. How wide is the face (approx?)

GatoNaranja · 19/05/2015 09:09

Thanks Perfectionist, there are some nice ones on that link. I like the idea of the boyfriend watches that are paired with the pretty bangles!

GatoNaranja · 19/05/2015 09:11

That's strange, I clicked again on the link and it showed me just one. That is really nice - I love the blue hands! It might be a little dainty for my liking though.

GatoNaranja · 19/05/2015 09:12

Oh sorry - you posted again! Differrnt link.

OP posts:
GatoNaranja · 19/05/2015 09:12

Different even...

I am to my second Skagen in five months . Do we think there might be a durability issue?

Dumpylump · 19/05/2015 09:28

Sorry, was off on school run! Have just measured and it's about 3.5cm across the face.
I like it because it's very pretty, accurate and doesn't need batteries or winding. And the hands glow in the dark!

LadyFairfaxSake · 19/05/2015 10:09

Try Citizen or look at a second hand Omega?

MrsPMT · 19/05/2015 10:34

Try Christopher Ward, they have excellent watches.

NipSlip · 19/05/2015 12:33

I've had my Kors watch for two years. It hasn't put a foot wrong, and still looks as good as the day I bought it.
I find watches from 'watch' brands a bit dull sometimes.

I didn't think twice about buying a watch from a brand which specialises in other markets; if you're concerned then check the guarantee and buy from a store you trust. And you realise the internal workings will be made by pretty much the same people...

GatoNaranja · 19/05/2015 12:42

Thank you for all your replies, it's much appreciated. I'm going through all the ideas that you've put forward. Dumpy I'm very taken with your watch, and the size of the dial is perfect - I want a bigger one than the one I have now (about 2.5cm)

Nip I do know what you mean, the watches from watch brands are a bit samey! Perhaps I'll have another think about the Kors ones - they do seem to have good reviews.

GatoNaranja · 19/05/2015 12:46

lady Fairfax - a second hand watch would be fine, but blimey, second hand Omegas are still out of my range! Thanks anyway.

I like the Christipher Ward watches but are they all for men or am I being dense?

OP posts:
GatoNaranja · 19/05/2015 12:47

Christopher - sorry!
