Eh? What does size have to do with what you wear?

But if it helps...I'm a size 12 and wear calf length Lycra leggings and a sports vest top. Vests from decathalon and leggings are various brands

Tanaqui · 18/05/2015 14:45

If you want cheap get leggings (suggest mid calf) and vest in asda (from their sports range, not normal clothes), very cheap and you will need a size 10!

scribblegirl · 18/05/2015 14:47

Three words: DECENT SPORTS BRA.

I'm a 12 and I'm usually in mid-length leggings (cheap from Sports Direct but a dry fit - so much better than regular leggings) and any tshirt I can find (though I'm thinking of getting a few cheap sports tops).

But if you spend money on anything, let it be a good sports bra. Saviours.

NomiMalone · 18/05/2015 14:48

I'm a 10-12 and I wear cropped leggings, a (good) sports bra and a loose vest.

New Look, Matalan, Sports Direct all good for affordable gym gear.

Rosieliveson · 18/05/2015 14:52

I was going to say that if I was a size 12 then I wouldn't be at the gym. Then I realised that that is probably why I'm a fair bit larger than a 12 Grin
I'd go with good sports bra, cropped leggings or such like and a T shirt.

GingerCuddleMonster · 18/05/2015 15:10

I'm a size 12, old baggy-t-shirt, sports lycra lwggins and a good sports bra and I'm good to go.

but then I don't have make up am the colour of a beetroot and messy Pixy cut with sweat pouring off me so I can't say I care much about my appearance in the gym lol

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 18/05/2015 15:14

I bought some nice gym gear mostly because I think it makes me a bit more likely to go - I think I might have been right.

I'm a 10 and wear leggings, a sporty bra tank thing, and a long-sleeve workout top on top of that, and if it's bad weather, I have a cute athletic wind-breaker type thing.

Mumblechum1 · 18/05/2015 15:24

I'm a 12 and wear leggings, sometimes yoga pants if leggings all in the wash, and quite nice sports tops (not expensive, just H&M/Sainsbos) and a sports bra.

I want Goodbye's cute windbreaker.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 18/05/2015 15:30

You need to be comfortable and the clothes fit for purpose. That's all.

I don't go to the gym but I do run. I wear running tights and wicking tops that don't leave me all sweaty. I do buy a size bigger in the tops though because I hate anything too fitted.

I've got used to being seen in public in a lot less than I'd normally wear and now I really don't give a fuck what I look like. You need to adopt the same attitude at the gym. Comfort is everything.

Sports direct is good for cheap stuff, their own Karrimor stuff is fine and very reasonable. Brave the store at your peril though, it is hell on earth.

DidoTheDodo · 18/05/2015 15:31

I'd wear nothing and show off my size 12-ness.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 18/05/2015 15:32

Here you go, mumble - H&M.

Thanks Goodbye Smile

goodasitgets · 18/05/2015 15:37

I'm a 16
Nike free runs for trainers or barefoot for deadlifts and squats
I wear capris usually nike from sports direct or mpg from tk maxx
A long vest top, often a slogan one to irritate my personal trainer (he LOVES my "don't make me do cardio")

specialsubject · 18/05/2015 15:53

baggy leggings not good if you are using machinery as can catch, and also not for things like Pilates where instructor needs to see what you are doing.

cheap vest top/t-shirt, sports bra if doing bouncy stuff, cheap leggings, suitable trainers. It's for an hour indoors and you have a shower afterwards, no need for flashy weatherproofing or silly labels.

your size is irrelevant as long as the clothes roughly match it.

dexter73 · 18/05/2015 16:01

I weare cropped leggings, sports bra and a tight vest. I don't like loose tops at the gym as you can end up flashing if you are doing some exercises.

Shodan · 18/05/2015 16:14

YY. Don't accidentally buy and wear leggings two sizes too big, because you will look like Nora Batty on a bad day

There's loads of gym wear about. I have some from Tesco, Sainsbury's, TKMaxx, Sports Direct- all good. I go with knee length or 3/4 length dri-fit (or similar) black leggings and a racer back tight vest.

Some women at the gym wear a tight vest top underneath a looser sleeveless top- this could be an option if you're at all worried, but frankly I wouldn't be- ime no-one cares what you're wearing.

daftyburd · 18/05/2015 16:15

Good sports bra. I'm a 12 on top and wear old t shirts, vest tops and sports tops. Wear running tights or capri leggings on the bottom. Always black on the bottom, Usually buy from sports direct. I spend more on my bras and trainers. I find in my gym there's a wide variety of clothing and sizes. Not full of young, gym bunnies in the best of gear. I was a bit worried about that but not the case at all.

OnlyLovers · 18/05/2015 16:19

Don't know why your size matters!

I agree with a good sports bra. I like running leggings as they're light and stretchy and 'wick' away sweat, or whatever the term is.

Then I wear a cotton or stretchy top that covers about halfway down my arse. Nice hoody and yoga-type trousers for getting there and back.

My tip is TK Maxx: I get loads of nice gym stuff there; brands like Nike and Elle, and expensive yoga brands with organic fabrics, like Manuka, all for much cheapness.

Wearing clothes you like makes you go more.

Notfootball · 18/05/2015 21:36

Size 12 and much the same as above: tight vest top, good sports bra, shorts when the weather's warm or capris for the rest of the year, mostly from TK Maxx or Sports Direct. Quite like the US Pro stuff the latter has.

bluesbaby · 18/05/2015 22:06

Make sure your leggings are opaque. Lots of the cheaper leggings will display your bottom when you're doing squats / deadlifts / whatever else at the gym.

Just wear the same as the rest of us regardless of size: sports bra, sports leggings, sweat-wicking t-shirt (or vest if you've got a serious sweat problem). I've used regular t-shirts before and not checked the labels, and ended up with stinky stinky tshirts.

JulietteMontague · 19/05/2015 20:26

Cropped running leggings, good ports bra and either a wicking running top if I'm going to run outside first or a Primark cotton tshirt. Agree no baggy trousers as they can get caught on weights and machines. Other than that, whatever you feel comfortable in

Tanaqui · 19/05/2015 21:23

Did you get something you liked op?

bigTillyMint · 19/05/2015 21:35

I'm a size 12 and wear calf length leggings and a sports vest top with built-in bra (flat-chested) from Decathalon. Most women wear similar in our gym.

Knottyknitter · 19/05/2015 21:39

Scribble has it spot on, although I'd say bra and trainers/socks.

Spend on underwear, the rest can be whatever you fancy. Today I wore a huge festival t shirt from 2007 and black trakkies, but tbh I prefer crops for gym work as otherwise can get too hot. It's getting in there and doing something that's the important bit after all!

BikeRunSki · 19/05/2015 21:43

If I was a size 12, I wouldn't go to the gym!
