A plain, but not disgusting, nursing dress?

I can't find one anywhere! My specs are:

  • something in a light jersey, suitable for summer
  • knee/midi length (I'm 5'3 so most maxis are too long but would consider if comes in petite)
  • short/no sleeves *suitable for discreet nursing
  • not fucking disgusting! I.e no stupid tie fronts or frumpy bits. No frumpy pattern.

Can anyone help?? My absolute ideal would be midi length, empire line, black, jersey or similar, sleeveless with straps at least an inch thick.

I love these shop.boobdesign.com/en/4/span-style-color-black-nursing-wear-span

TheFairyCaravan · 16/05/2015 17:17

This?

TheFairyCaravan · 16/05/2015 17:22

Does this count as a stupid front?

0utForAWalkBitch · 16/05/2015 17:31

See, all those are ok, but they still look like nursing clothes, they just have something of the "frump" about them, and are far too expensive for something that's not really that nice.

FairyCaravan I wouldn't class that as a "stupid" front (I suppose I'm referring to the twisty bust/crossover/baggy top layer kind of deals) but it's not my style at all and would not be kind to my many lumps and bumps! Grin

It feels like it shouldn't be this hard to get something that's flattering and suitable for nursing. My last baby was born in December so I just layered vests under my normal tops and didn't get any special bf gear, but this ones due next month and I don't particularly fancy wearing layers in the heat.

I found a few non hideous things in mamalicious, bit boring but at least not the "just stepped out of jojo" look! mamalicious.com/mama-licious/t-shirt/sofia-nell-s-s-dress-nf-basic/20003497,en_GB,pd.html?dwvar_20003497_colorPattern=20003497_Black

I've been buying little strappy crop tops and wearing under v neck/button tops and dresses.

AnythingNotEverything · 16/05/2015 17:49

I hate proper nursing clothes. I'm due next month and I've found a maxi in Sainsburys that has sufficient access (would be too long for you though). H&M had some good ones when I was BF last summer. They often do good beachwear that is ok for not on the beach too - like loose waisted vest dresses.

How about tube skirts and top with vest under?

0utForAWalkBitch · 16/05/2015 17:54

AnythingNotEverything tube skirt vest and floaty top was my uniform in summer last time! Grin Looks like I may have to go that way again but I remember getting hot and fed up having to wear two layers so was hoping I'd be able to find an alternative. Plus I'm heavier this time and the tube skirt isn't such a good look any more - although that may change once I get the baby out!

www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_119020410065_-1 sorry can't do the link thing on tablet.

0utForAWalkBitch · 16/05/2015 18:39

Nobeer, despite it having what I class as a "stupid" front, I actually quite like that!

I have a navy tuxedo type dress from reiss that I used before. Also check out some me and em - their stuff if jersey - I managed with some of their tops, haven't with dresses tho.

nobeer · 16/05/2015 19:15

Grin it is a battle buying nursing clothes. I sent some back because I got tangled up in the double layers.

HazleNutt · 16/05/2015 19:20

I couldn't manage nursing clothes - too many layers that are either a pain, or flap open at random times. Just a normal wrap dress gives enough boob access.

junemami · 16/05/2015 19:33

I have a red herring nursing dress from debenhams, plain jersey, short sleeves and in a few different colours. Not too pricey either, was still on website few weeks ago.

Sarri · 16/05/2015 19:37

I've got one of the babes with bumps nursing dresses, think its this one:

Sarri · 16/05/2015 19:39

Oops sorry, posted that before id finished, meant to say, it's very, very plain, there are openings on both sides from the pleats. I'm about 5'3 and it's knee length on me.

0utForAWalkBitch · 16/05/2015 19:49

Sarri I like that one! Whether or not I like it enough to justify £85 is another thing - but it would probably get a fair bit of wear so it might be a go-er - is it the type of thing you could dress up but also wear to a toddler group?

The thing about the wrap front style is I've always found that style sits strangely on me even when not pregnant or nursing, plus doesn't a whacking great nursing bra poke out of the top when you move and if you've got one of the styles that doesn't sit flush to the bit between your boobs it must make it sit wrongly too?? They are just not flattering on me for whatever reason.

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 16/05/2015 20:11

Ah, I don't wear whacking great nursing bras. Last time was an HH cup at some point and the horrible soft cup bras just won't offer enough support. So I bought normal bras and converted them myself - also allows you to wear normal clothes.

If not a fan of wraps, I also have some jersey with simply lower v-neck, that work quite nicely.

Sarri · 16/05/2015 20:22

Yup, it is very plain and simple so looks good with a chunky necklace but also fine dressed down with trainers. I've not tried it on since I stopped bfing but hopefully still looks ok now so I'll get more use out of it this summer.

I'm sure I got it for more like £50 though, I'm far too stingy to pay £85, must have been an offer on!

Some lovely ones here www.izzysmum.co.uk/cat/8/breastfeeding-dresses/

0utForAWalkBitch · 16/05/2015 21:34

I am seriously considering the Stella dress, I've googled it and there are quite a few glowing reviews of it.

Googled the boden day dress and it looks really nice too, although I don't love taking the boob out the top without at least a token covering on top Grin

Izzys mum also some nice stuff there - thanks for all the links ladies!
