Waterproof mascara- does it bugger up your eyelashes?

Hi,

Just that really. The annoying part about this is that I didn't intentionally buy a waterproof mascara. I picked one up by accident, but I opened it before I realised my mistake, so can't take it back grrr.

Anyway, it's the Maybelline Falsies Express one and I actually quite like it. I've always avoided waterproof because I assume that it's bad for your lashes. Is this right? I would have thought that because you've got to work harder to get it off, this would mean you'd be losing more lashes.

Your thoughts please.

i haven't found ti makes any difference to my lashes. I just make sure I don't scrub at it, i try to be gentle but i don't find i lose any lashes or that they are in any worse condition for using waterproof mascara

Ah ok Lady, thanks. I tried not to rub too hard when I took it off last night, but it took a hell of a lot longer to get it off. Annoying, but actually it's a really good mascara. Pleasantly surprised.

I bought some Max Factor False Lash Effect waterproof mascara and all my eyelashes snapped and my eyes were almost bald and every time I looked in the mirror I sang to myself "Piggy eyes..." (like off the advert). Very distressing! They've almost grown back now but I was worried in case they didn't and I'll never use waterproof mascara again! Plus... £11 wasted!

Brookville · 16/05/2015 21:44

I can't clean the stuff off. My holy grail of all eye make-up cleansers, Body Shop camomile remover can't get it off and I'm left with bits of black mascara dandruff all over my cheekbones.
Can't really see the point of waterproof unless you're a swimmer or cry a lot. And if you're a swimmer underwater who can see your eyes anyway?!

ArtDecoGirly · 16/05/2015 22:42

Brookville The reason I tried it was because the second I go outside to a slight breeze or a bit nip in the air, my eyes water like billy-o. But after my experience of the above, I'd rather have streaks down my face and a quick clean up than no eyelashes!

Loreal micellar gel is great for removing waterproof mascara. Make sure it's the gel not the water.

BadgersArse · 17/05/2015 09:53

use oil

Allie82 · 17/05/2015 16:05

I always use waterproof. It's so much better and holds a curl way longer than normal. Just make sure your remover is designed for waterproof. I find the bi phase ones best such as Nivea or garnier.

cuphat · 17/05/2015 16:10

I only ever wear waterproof mascara and my lashes are long and in very good condition (I only wear mascara because my lashes are blonde). I just use a decent eye make-up remover that doesn't require scrubbing. My eyes water easily so non-waterproof isn't an option.

Smarterthantheaveragebeaver · 17/05/2015 17:41

I only ever wear waterproof. My lashes are in great condition. I use any eyemake up remover for waterproof mascara thats on offer in Boots and never have any issues. The L'Oreal one is my favourite.

wonkylegs · 17/05/2015 17:53

I have long lashes in good condition and have always worn waterproof mascara as my eyes tear up very easily.
L'oreal make up remover seems to get mine off fine and its noticeable if it hasn't as I have blonde lashes.

wonkylegs · 17/05/2015 19:41

Actually just had a look and I've currently got the Garnier softening cleansing lotion which is also working well

notthestereotype · 18/05/2015 13:19

Ah ok, so it sounds like the reason for breakage is not taking it off properly and not the actual mascara.

I have to say, since going back to my normal mascara, it's not as good and as someone already said, waterproof holds a curl much better. You can't really build up with it though can you? I find my lashes get spikey and hard. Not a good look.

The No 7 one I use is buildable, I wear at least 3 coats or I feel nakedGrin

Allie82 · 19/05/2015 21:07

The lore all miss manga is build able once you get used to the wiggly wand ;-)

PuppyMouse · 19/05/2015 21:23

Agree that key is how you remove it. I wear the mascara you've mentioned OP, with Dior iconic overcurl waterproof over the top. Despite thick coats of two waterproof mascaras my lashes are fine and dandy.

I use baby oil.
