I'm off to a music concert for the first time in years at the weekend and want to wear something funky, cool but a bit glam too!!! I haven't got a clue where to start & need some help please. I'm 5 6 and a size 12 and 40-ish... Smile

I don't want to put a damper on your plans, but no-one is going to be looking at you and once the lights go down no-one will be able to see you. Just wear something comfortable, and wear layers in case it gets too warm.

Black leggings/skinny jeans
Ankle boots
Black/white slouchy vest

It does depend massively on the genre.
I go to quite a few gigs and it can fee feel like a fashion parade at some shows, less so at others. The styles worn vary a lot too even just between what most people would consider sub-genres. The two options given above are good broad choices though. At 40-ish if slim / glam then definitely go for the first look. If more homely looking the second one. Definitely don't wear the t-shirt to match the band you're going to see though!

Noooo, opposite way round! IME, it's the slim, glam-ish types who look effortlessly cool in a simple t-shirt, flat shoes and jeans.

It's the more "homely" types, to use your choice of words, who aren't as confident or as used to going to gigs, so try and dress up with boots and a big necklace, but if I'm honest, I think that looks a bit too much "mum-at-a-gig."

Depends who you're going to see though. If it's the likes of Coldplay at an arena, then everyone will be in ankle boots, biker jackets, chains, drapey vests etc. Clearly dressing up for a one-off gig. There's usually lots of women looking pained in heels by the end of the night.

But if a local band at an Academy/smaller venue, dressing like that would make you look like you were there to pick your teenagers up. Hence the suggestion of keeping it simple and casual - the aim is to look like you've made minimal effort.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, just that one type of gig is not the same as another!

Think I will aim for an understated and cool vibe, and hope to pull it off Smile
