County Show attire?

This isn't a joke thread Grin

So, 5 years married to a farmer. I tend to avoid the likes of Joules, Boden, Fat Face, Sea Salt etc etc like the plague because the look is rather cliqued. Not generally you understand, just within these "country types". And I simply cannot pull off the pretty scarf look. I like the simple Baukjen stuff for example.

All fine until it gets to County Show time of year. If the weather is nice then I'm fine. (Probably a dress and converse) But if the weather is cold I'm stumped! Jeans are a no go. And I'm too old for the tweed shirts and long boots look Wink

So I need something smart and warm (legs and arms). Any ideas folks? Something that fits in but doesn't necessarily conform Grin

TIA

Did you mean tweed skirts rather than shirts? Why no jeans? How about chinos with boots and shirt with a jacket?

Moreisnnogedag · 12/05/2015 09:06

Oh blimey. Why no jeans? Surely jeans and wellies for pure practicality??

Welsh spring show by any chance?

Slim chino type trousers, your pick of boots depending on the state of the showground, nice jumper (lightweight lambswool sort of thing) and a blazer/soft jacket if cool but dry.

I guess you are doing smart because you are in the members section (like CLA) and going into corporate entertainment, rather than us plebs who are dressed by 'whatever is most waterproof' and dusted with a healthy layer of animal hair. The only time I feel the need to look slightly smarter is the Game Fair

BrassicaBabe · 12/05/2015 09:46

Lol @ CMOTD Grin Yes, Game Fair type stuff

Yes, no to tweed skirts as a tweed shirt would just be plain odd

Who knows on the jeans front! It's just "not done". And you can't get into the members area wearing them. (Yes I know, who cares! I'm inclined to agree with you, but sometimes I have to "take one" for the family team! Hmm)

Does anyone have any brands they can suggest?

Have a look at Lands End for not too out there, but good quality and reasonably priced as a starter, then depending on how much you want to spend, have a look at the clothing stalls at such events to find interesting pieces that fit in with how you want to look, but are sort of in keeping. For instance, theres a company that do a beautiful british wool tweed edwardian sort of style jacket that I lust after (but have no reason to own).

Oh I forgot about the members' area Blush

I was thinking you were just in with the rest of us, plodding through disinfectant trays and mud.

Moloh sells very fancy versions of tweed, which are whimsical and glamorous rather than elderly WI. But £££s.

We go to the RHS every year and are members, I tend to wear denim skirt and tights or leggings (so wellies on round the mud, flip flops if sunny and smarter ballerinas or boots for the smarter bits) a vest top, blazer and scarf if particularly cold. I tend to put a statementesque type necklace on, hair up and make up done. I tend to think layers are the best thing for shows because it can get really hot in the marquees but cold if sitting outside. I certainly don't see anyone dressed smarter than that unless it's for one of the evening dinners but then you would get changed for them. Have a great time!
