Please can someone point me in the right direction for interview clothes.

I'm 43. We are in a rural area with no family so child care issues have meant the only work I have been able to get was bar work at evenings and weekends, for the past 15 years!

I now need to work full time as I'm a recent lone parent to a teen.

I have no idea if anyone will ever give me an interview but what should I wear if they do?
I'm applying for mainly retail and office based jobs. My natural style is a bit hippy/rock chick so there is nothing in my wardrobe that I can utilise.

Do I have to wear a suit? I'm 5'7", a size 10 - 12 with huge norks. I have very long hair. (Down to bum) and I don't usually wear make up. I would love to, I just don't really know how to apply it or what would suit me. I think I may be beyond help!

Any advice on shops or styles to look at much appreciated.

Would be great if interview outfit could double as work wear. I'm on a tiny budget.

TIA

I would suggest a jacket, shirt or flowy blouse and most importantly trousers that fit well round the bum and legs. For the jacket & trousers Next is good or you could even try Primark, certainly for the top. I have never tried their jackets and trousers are of variable quality. There's also New Look which has some great stuff too.
Make up wise, I have heard good things about No7 Foundation where they match your skin. It will be cheaper than the big brands. Rimmel for taupe/beige eyeshadow.
Good luck!
