I want to know this too! Does your dentist recommend one or do you find one independently? When I was with an nhs dentist, they recommended an orthodontist to me. I went along and had an assessment. I could have carried on and got braces but chickened outBlush am looking into it again.

Our family dentist recommended our orthodontist (for my daughter). In fact they recommended two (one of which I knew from my work randomly).

As an adult who had braces I was referred by my dentist. I just had a check up with my dentist and asked. First consultation was about £60 approx 5 years ago.

We were referred by dentist.

He gave us a choice of two good ones, and we just chose the nearest.

Check that anyone recommended to you is a qualified orthodontist and not a dentist who 'specialises' in orthodontics. I think the qualification is M Orth.

All orthodontists are dentists who "specialise" in orthodontics. "Specialist" is a title protected by law and if they call themselves a specialist, they must be on the specialist register.
