10 days in Mallorca in August - what to wear?

We are heading to Mallorca for 10 days at the very end of August. We will have 3 nights in a 4 star hotel in Palma and 6 nights in a resort type hotel, we are travelling with dd (9). I am very pale skinned, 45 yr old red head and I have NO idea how to dress flatteringly on this type of holiday. Please help!

This is our first 'beach' type holiday as previously we have gone on city type hols where I work things like dresses and leggings, linen trousers etc for sightseeing.

I am so pale and not at all interested anymore in changing that, but I can't think what to wear by the pool, hotel etc as I can't imagine wafting about in a swimsuit / bikini - don't have either right now anyway.

Please help me to sort this out!

I am 5ft 9" and currently a very snug 12 (really a 14 but fighting it) am intending to be a 10/12 by the time we go.

Thanks

bloody hot and most of them are polyester and makes you look SO English abroad

KiteKit · 06/05/2015 16:54

thanks for the feedback BadgersArse, given that I will need to buy new clothes for the holiday I will need to spread the cost over a couple of pay days - so, yeah, nothing like planning ahead Grin

I am not English so am hopeful that wearing a non polyester kaftan will not suddenly make me look English...

Lotta thanks for your comments Smile

I am fair and always wear short kaftan tunic things. I have some lovely ones I've had years but find most places abroad sell them and they are usually cotton if you buy them there.

Helpful BadgersArse. Planning way ahead and feeling anxious often go hand in hand

KiteKit · 06/05/2015 18:30

noddy thank you for the link. I love that kaftan! Must take a proper look in Debenhams.

I am not an anxious person in the slightest. We booked our flights yesterday and it got me thinking about what I would need to bring for this type of a holiday since I haven't been on a beach / pool holiday since my 20's and I am now 45 so I reckon a poolside wardrobe over haul may be in order at this stage Grin

This thread was more idle musing and allowing myself to start feeling a bit excited about the fact that it is booked as opposed to panic stations!

But thank you all very much for the suggestions, they have definitely given me much food for thought

I'm going to Mallorca for 10 days in August too KiteKit Grin I have just bought this - its very flattering. I have a couple of maxi dresses from last summer that I'll take too. Other than that, no idea...!

I've just comeback from Fuerteventura.

In the evenings I wore my Next harem pants in various patterns. I've got some lacy vests and dressy t-shirts that I wore with them.

I've got a maxi skirt from Hush, a tube skirt from Next and and midi T-shirt dress that I took as well.

I quite like these as a change from wider linen trousers.

We went AI so I wore either a vest and denim or chino shorts to breakfast and lunch a basic dress. By the pool I covered up with kaftans from Primark and Matalan, they've got loads in ATM. Boohoo.com had some nice floppy hats not so long ago, too but I've got one that I bought in Majorca a couple of years back that I took with me.

OP - you've had some great suggestions. I just wanted to add that Mallorca will be VERY hot in August, so you may wish to consider a summer scarf (instead of a heavier pashmina) for round you shoulders in the evenings. But you'd probably only need that in an air conditioned restaurant.

Have a great trip!

Bobble spot or Corsica kaftan from Boden both look great for holidays. I'd go for knee length to wear in the daytime but I do like the one you linked too. August nights are still really hot and I didn't need a cardigan whereas I did in June. I needed a kimono for arm and shoulder coverage when eating out and walking etc.
