Does anyone do face contouring?

My dds told me about face contouring and showed me YouTube videos and I thought I could do that to make me look better. So we went to boots and they helped me get some stuff and I went home and tried it....well let's just say I didn't end up looking like Kim Kardashian Grin

I looked at videos for contouring more mature skin and it seems (in theory) simple enough, but I was wondering does anyone actually do this?
With a LOT of practice I think it it can look ok but is this just something celebs do?

I don't contour as such, as it just doesn't work on me! But i do bronze in all the contouring areas which gives a lovely look.

I have looked at videos for contouring mature skin too. They suggest using a paler foundation in the areas needing highlighted. I'm really pale so fear I would end up painting on Adam Ant white stripes. I would like contouring advice too. Got a big do coming up and I don't want my usual little girl from The Ring look in photos. Already learned my SPF causes glare so a bit of contouring advice now?
Sorry for hijacking your post Op!

Have a look at illamasqua- they have some gel based contouring sticks you apply with your hands. Haven't tried them yet but I am interested.

I tried some contouring today and was quite pleased but think I need a lot more practice. I think I did my under cheekbones lines too low I need it going more in a straighter line so my face is more lifted.
I can't do the pale highlighter all over my face as it looked ridiculous and sunk into my pores even with foundation and primer underneath. so used a highlighting powder which looked ok.
I did look better with a bit of colour rather than matt and flat face so I'll keep trying. Smile

I've seen a few attempts at it, which I thought looked terrible in real life (sorry).

It doesn't look good in unreal life, either. I saw Amanda Holden on This Morning last week and she looked bizarre.

I have done the kind where you use a dark cream foundation (or dark concealer stick) and a light cream (I used a very light concealer stick) blended in with a sponge and your usual foundation. I watched Wayne Goss's video on it - he does it on a mature woman with great bone structure. Anyway, I guess it looked pretty good but it was a very heavily made-up look. I used a Sleek cream foundation in a dark brown tone and a pale concealer stick and I used Pan Stick in my usual shade to be the blender. Perhaps a liquid foundation would have been a little less heavy.

I looked like I was going to be the matriarchal bitch on Falcon Crest or something - it was a lot of makeup.

However, I do a more subtle version every day. For the dark I use NYX "blusher" in Taupe. It's extremely popular as a contour as it's not orangy or tan and it goes on very subtly. For the highlight, I use Touche Eclat. I dont do streaks all over my face or anything. It's just the taupe under my cheekbones and up my temples and the Touche Eclat on my brow, down the bridge of my nose, and on the tops of my cheekbones. It's very subtle and it does look nice.

Sometimes I'll use something a bit more glisteny for the highlight - like Benefit High Beam or the No 7 highlight stick. That's definitely a more evening look.
