Hi,

My daughter is due to start school in September and I need to know what sort of clothes are needed for the school run. I'm trying to make more of an effort as very much a jeans and t shirt/jumper girl. Any help grateful received!

Thanks

OP - if it's more htat you feel you've lost any 'style' now youre a SAHM, that's a different matter. I know I had to think about it more when I became a mother, it was that previously I'd worn smart clothes for work and spent the bulk of my 'clothing budget' on work wear (suits and v smart things, not 'business casual' that could cross over into weekend wear much). Then I'd buy 'going out clothes' for weekend evenings, and weekend day clothes were really scruffy as they didn't matter much.

When I became a mother, I realised that all I wore now was the scruffy weekend stuff so had to start to smarten up my 'casual' clothes, or look a state all the time. I'd never really learned what casual stuff suited me. (I still have to remind myself I don't need to buy shift dresses and to look at the casual trousers, not the suit ones, and DC1 is at school)

It's easy to lose your way at this point, especially as having DCs can ruin a perfectly lovely figure so that you can't look as 'effortlessly glamorous' in scruffy stuff anymore....

I agree mintyy. While i like looking at the dresses on the school run dress threads the concept of changing into a dress to do the school run is Confused

Also agree with mintyy I spend a grand total of 20 mins a day max doing the school run. I wouldn't consider having separate clothes just for walking up the road and back again. The only thing I would recommend is getting a large bag to carry all of DCs shite school stuff. Perhaps I could start another thread....., can anyone recommend a school run bag?

I have the delight of 3 school runs a day. I can usually be found in Lycra for the first two of them and with wet hair and whatever comfy clothes I have pulled on post shower for the third. Going back to work in Sept so will be wearing proper clothes then!

There will be a mix of smart mums ( and dads) going off to work, people in work out gear, jeans and casual clothes and fashionable clothes. Pretty much the same as when you go shopping- bit of everything,so just wear what you like with a big friendly smile and you'll be fine Smile

Definitely a warm waterproof coat for winter. Preferably with a hood as there's not much room for everyone holding umbrellas in our playground. Comfortable shoes especially if dc are scooting and you are trying to run behind. And as norockandroll said, a big bag for all those models and paintings you bring home not to mention the book bag and coat that get thrown at you the minute they see you.

A big smile Smile

Definitely a smile. I am trying to be more smiley but have a natural puzzled frown and it does me no favours, no matter what I'm wearing Wink
