How do you decide whether to make an expensive purchase or not?

Just wondering what people's method is? Just so I can make sure I've really thought this through!

I've seen a 2nd hand Mulberry bag for sale locally and it's a lot more than I have ever spent on a bag but I've always liked the Alexa and the colour is quite bright and different from anything else I own. It's £649 thoShock Shop owner is flexible so can do it in instalments but I need to make sure I've really thought it through before I make a duff decision.

I can technically afford this outright but I suppose it's more the thought of "hmm what else should I be spending that on?"

Is there some golden rule when it comes to whether to spend or not to spend??

They've also managed to spell "outlet" wrong in their web address Grin

That is a clear give away - now I feel stupid!

If you go on the purses forum they often have a list of what is currently on sale at the official outlets. You can then phone and order.
I got one that was cheaper new than its eBay second hand price.

Going to call outlet today as see if it's in...

A Sub is a substandard bag sold in the outlets. Not all of the bags there are subs. The subs are marked with a O on the tag inside the bag and it also says on the paper price tag. The staff should also tell you when you go to pay for it.
They are lovely bags and can look perfect, but afaik Mulberry will not repair them in any way if there's a problem.

I love Mulberry, but the quality just isn't what it used to be, so I think it is very risky buying a sub. Most of my Mulberry bags have needed repairs and not because I don't treat them well.

There are a few outlets and they don't always have the same offers. Bicester Village has 20% off events and Mulberry are usually included, but the other Mulberry outlets do not adjust their price at the same time. So it might be worth registering with Bicester to get the notifications. I do think there's some way of registering with the mulberry outlets to get their emails - I think I did it when I bought something from there, but if you are calling them, they might be able to do it over the phone.

The outlets used to be okay with shipping bags in the UK, so you could ask if that is possible as well.

I called them all and it seems I'm a few months too late - all sold out! Although one did say that they'd put in to get some more and added me to a list so I might get a call if they do get more in. I won't hold my breath though!

Oh dear, I was just about to say I go home and think about how I'd feel in a week if I went back and they were sold out. If I'm kicking myself, I go back and buy it.

Decided not to buy in the end from the seller. Genuine seller but the flaky correspondence just annoyed me and I couldn't be bothered!

If it's meant to be, then the outlet will call me back and with a good priceGrin
