Has anyone tried DIY face powder? Or can recommend a really natural one?

As I've said on previous threads, I have found that certain skin care products can bring me out in a face full of spots, so consequently I'm now trying to stay as natural and chemical free as possible. I'm looking for an inexpensive i.e. under £10 loose face powder to set my sun cream in preparation for powder blusher and eyeshadow. I don't mind if it's transluscent or slightly tinted.

The Corn Silk original satin has caught my eye but I'm not 100% happy with the list of ingredients. Not sure about it. This then got me looking into DIY powders, made with corn starch; has anyone made them?
TIA.

Don't discount the pressed powders, I have the same issues as you with greasy sunscreen and just recently bought a compact pressed powder but I use a kabuki brush to apply it rather than the puff thing.

It's Clinique double face powder but at 24.50 it doesn't fit your budget. My point was to mention a pressed powder applied with a fluffy brush though!

Thanks Twitch. Do you find the sunscreen comes off on the brush and mades it feel cloggy? I just tried using my kabuki brush to apply some mineral powder over the sunscreen and it felt like I'd need to use loads of powder (eek, that would be expensive!) to make the brush glide over my skin (which is why I was thinking cheap loose powder). The plan is to use the loose to get rid of any stickiness of the cream, then perhaps a light dusting of something nicer over the top. I used to use Boots transluscent with a puff then brush off the excess, but would now prefer to use a more natural product if possible.

Hmmm, I get your point. It doesn't seem to be like the Bare Minerals type powder though, I sort of wipe the brush over it and then wipe it over my face so it doesn't 'grab' it just sort of lays on the surface. I can imagine swirl tapping and buffing would be a disaster!!! I kind of swipe and wipe Grin

you could try cornflour, recommend on makeup alley.

LividofLondinium · 04/05/2015 13:22

Thanks YJ. I'm very tempted to use cornflour with a bit of cinnamon for tint as I've seen it mentioned in a few DIY face powder recipes. What harm could it do eh? (famous last words)Wink Have you tried it yourself?

I'll be sniffing you as well as my arms at this rate! Blush

LOL, Twitch! I'll have hands that smell of Milky Bar and a face that smells of Danish pastries Grin

Oooh, I found something... Lily Lolo Finishing Powder. And only 2 ingredients! I often hear that company positively mentioned on here so worth a punt I reckon. A little over budget but it is nearly Christmas Wink

I've been very happy with Lily Lolo, I also have MUFE and No 7 and Guerlain but LL is cheaper and works just as well. The white finishing powder is the best, some of the pink-toned finishing powders contain a lot of mica and can feel like ground glass.

I binned the Corn Silk last year, and I never bin cosmetics. Had it for at least a decade but never really liked it.
I also use regularly cornflour as a dry shampoo (very happy with the results) but it is extremely drying and irritating on my face.

Minerals + sunscreen is a slightly tricky combination (chalky finish with physicals, can slide off my face, and often results in gunky kabukis requiring special treatment). I'm a staunch fan of mineral makeup but have started wearing Dr Jart and Missha BB cream. Will switch back to minerals in autumn.
