Toner suggestions please!

After years of using Liz Earle I've discovered that No7 is perfect for my skin. I've been using hot cloth cleanser, day & night cream & a lovely oil face wash in the morning. But not keen on the only toner they seem to do so would love suggestions. I'd like one that tightens pores & smooths please :-)

Pop into the amazing faces thread for some great ideas. Toners have moved on a lot in recent times and I'm not sure if you're asking for an actual acid toner recommendation or something after cleansing that leaves your face feeling fresher. Tightening pores is a temporary thing so I'm not sure what I can suggest.

I'm using FAB radiance pads every morning after cleansing which contain glycolic and lactic acid but I use that as a brightening and anti ageing step. I then spritz afterwards with Caudalie grape water as a hydrating antioxidant toner.

Sorry if that's not helpful, I didn't want you to go unanswered :)

I use pixi glow tonic

Followed by La Roche-Posay serozinc

I also like the effaclar toner

Twitch do you use the caudalie beauty elixr?
What is it for? At what stage do I use it?

Leviticus · 04/05/2015 11:18

Nothing can tighten pores I'm afraid. Caroline Hirons says "pores are not doors, they don't open and close".

That said an acid toner is great for sorting out the texture of your skin. The Clarins one is supposed to be great and is next on my list - Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner.

philo it's the one in the big white can, grape water I think it's called, not the elixir. £10. I use it after acid toning as a quick hydrating spritz and before a Decleor face oil then moisturiser.

Caroline Hirons has it in her top 10 and uses it more than the elixir I think.

Philoslothy · 04/05/2015 11:23

I know the grape water is different but was wondering what the elixr was for. Maybe I want the grape water and not the elixr. Elixr makes it sound like something I need though!

Twitchcoco · 04/05/2015 11:27

I looked at the elixir but it's expensive. It's marketed as a part serum, part hydrating mist. Frankly I just wanted something to balance after the acid tone so didn't want to spend £32.

Philoslothy · 04/05/2015 11:37

Yes it was that marketing that made me confused.

I may look into the grape water, thanks.

Gem124 · 04/05/2015 12:08

I'm not actually sure what I need... I just know you're meant to cleanse, tone & moisturise! What is the 'tone' stage meant to do?? Twitch where can I find the gorgeous faces thread please? Thank you all :-)

Come and join us on anazing faces - it's not cleanse tone and moisturise any more!

It's cleanse (probably double), acid tone, serum (ridiculously complicated), retinol, moisturise and SPF!

But what you prob want is an acid toner like the FAB pads or Pixi Glow.

Someone has already beaten me to it with 'pores are not doors'. An acid can clear them out and make them look smaller, a retinol can help increase collagen so support them better stopping them from enlarging. But no toner is going to tighten them sadly.

Twitchcoco · 04/05/2015 12:18

Cleanse tone and moisturise worked back in the day when Anne French cleansing milk left a film all over our faces and we needed to wipe it off. Witch hazel used to be the main one as it is an astringent.

Nowadays there's a 15 step system or maybe it just feels like that!!!

Depending on your age and skin type we can give you some ideas over there. Or here if you prefer.

Gem124 · 04/05/2015 13:33

Head over! Thank you both :-)
