How often do you wash your hair?

And if you are one of the lucky ones that can get away with washing it every few days (or longer) what do you do to it?!

I have long, slightly frizzy, wavy hair. It's not majorly fine but not really thick either. However it does get greasy at the roots very quickly, within a day!

Every day, and again if I'm going out in the evening. I have very fine greasy hair. A bit like Golum. Sad

Marmaladybird · 03/05/2015 16:43

Every third day. I have long fine hair that gets oily at the roots - a bit of dry shampoo or a ponytail/knot sorts it out for the last day. I used to wash it every day but it's a faff and my hair seemed lanker.

theDudesmummy · 03/05/2015 16:45

Every second day now (used to be every day, but having a baby and then going into menopause has made my hair drier).

CandyAppleFudge · 03/05/2015 16:46

Everyday, mainly because it gets horrible after I've been to the gym.

Tanaqui · 03/05/2015 17:31

Every time I go to the gym (sweat!) so often four days in a row and then not for the whole weekend!

itsnothingoriginal · 03/05/2015 17:42

Every single day. I have very straight, greasy hair and looks really horrible if for any reason I can't wash it every morning plus I can't bear the smell of unwashed hair!!

dexter73 · 03/05/2015 17:53

I wash my hair every day. It is very curly and I look like Worzel Gummidge when I wake up. It goes all weird, flat and frizzy if I attempt to do something with it so it is just quicker for me to wash it to get it to look nice.

marymouse · 03/05/2015 17:58

Everyday, otherwise it's a greasy lanky mess.
Blow drying it everyday is such a bloody chore

Paperblank · 03/05/2015 18:00

Once maybe twice a week. But then like PP my hair is long and thick so it doesn't tend to look or feel greasy.

When I'm on a beach holiday I wash it every day and despite slathering on the conditioner and serum it goes big and fluffy. I find my hair likes a bit of neglect Grin

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 03/05/2015 18:04

Every 5-7 days depending on what's going on, but my hair is v. thick. I used to wash every day but having a newborn broke the cycle and I've never looked back! Have never tried dry shampoo, does anyone have any recommendations?

Betsyblue · 03/05/2015 18:05

Every day! It's wavy, long and thick and it takes forever to dry but I can't find a better option.

I sometimes use a dry shampoo to buy an extra day if I can't face the slog but I just think it doesn't look clean.

Ragwort · 03/05/2015 18:14

Once a week here too as well - my hair is also very thick and I just put it up or tie it back - fortunately I am not at all vain and really don't care what it looks like Grin.

TheSpottedZebra · 03/05/2015 18:15

Every other day for me, unless I'm at work when it's every day. Although day 2 (if not washed), usually has me feeling like it could do with a wash, Tbh. I think that any longer, and hair starts to whiff a bit.

I'm quite tall and hate being on the tube or the bus and smelling other people's hair which is quite often just under my nose.

CoolCadbury · 03/05/2015 18:20

Every 5th day or so, depending on whether I have put I used hair dryer/straightener and associated hair care products. If I just let it dry naturally then about a week. But I have very coarse, thick hair that looks all frizzy and dry after it's been washed and only looks nice and manageable after the 3rd day.

Do you shampoo twice? That took me from every day to every 2-3 days. Now mine is longer its down to every 3 - 4 days (though on the 4th day it has to be tied back, which might be cheating)

Lj8893 · 03/05/2015 22:32

Will try shampooing twice, simple but good idea thanks.

Also what does everyone do with conditioner, their whole head of hair or just the ends?

daimbardiva - what conditioner do you use? I'm trying out Cowashing but struggling to find an affordable conditioner that's free of nasties. Everything has silicone in...

daimbardiva · 03/05/2015 22:46

I really like Naked's Bounce conditioner - unfortunately I believe it's being discontinued although my local Boots still seems to have it.

I also like Loreal Ever riche, and Organix Everstraight (which doesn't make my hair straight, thankfully!)

These are all sulphate and silicone free (I think), and not horrendously expensive.

A lot of people love the body shop's rainforest range, but I really didn't.

It's really interesting hearing people's different habits and washing patterns - I think it's just a question of finding what suits you best. My hair really loves conditioner - I use a leave in as well as really piling it on in the shower and using regular deep conditioning treatments. I have wavy hair which I always thought was thick, but I now realise isn't, I just have lots of it!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/05/2015 23:57

Every other day usually but now I'm menopausal I seem to be drying up like an old prune and my hair seems to last for 3 days.Grin

CapnMurica · 04/05/2015 09:26

I've started going to the gym, so I wash the morning after if I have.

If I haven't, I can easily go a week or more, whether I've curled (with tongs) or am wearing my natural curls. My hair is so dry, it just doesn't get greasy, ever, seemingly!

For co-washing, I would really recommend finding a hair shop for afro hair. They often have co-washes (although I have bought the Palmers Olive Oil one from Amazon). At the moment I'm using one which is the nicest thing I have ever used, no nasties in it and smells like monoi de Tahiti so is proper gorgeous smelling. I got that, along with a moisturing cream for my hair and my curls have never looked better.
