Can anyone recommend some nice, flat but supportive shoes please?

Now that the weather is getting nice I'm pretty much in flat ballet pumps to walk to and from work and I know that they're pretty bad for my feet, given that there is about one layer of cardboard between my feet and the ground

I don't want to ever be one of those women wearing a suit and trainers, and lots of the flats I've seen are quite granny chic

Can anyone recommend some cute flats which would be suitable to wear with work clothes but also nice and comfy and supportive?

Thank you!

Indeed Toffee it's a trade off and some of the time I do wear stuff with more support across the top of the shoe, especially with trousers. But I'm doing my best to protect my feet and limit damage whilst still being proud of my legs which were always my best bit and I'm not ready to give up completely yet Blush.

well, I could be shot down here, but I wear geox shoes and flats - expensive but incredibly comfortable - probably a bit granny maybe,( because I am!) but how about these?

If you are doing it totally by what is best for your foot you want something that has fully adjustable support over the top of the foot. So someone suggested lace up brogues or kickers are also good. You are looking for a height on the back of the shoe at least to where a trainer sock would cover.

Worry less about the insole that is already in place because you can improve that anyway. The right cheap shoes can be as good as some of the brands.

But seriously if you are picking another ballet pump style shoe you may as well stick a decent pair of insoles in the ones you currently have

agoodbook I actually like the first pair! Thank you!

Ok so going back to basics, can anyone actually say what a supportive pair of shoes should and shouldn't have?

I was going to suggest the Shoe Therapy ones by Seraphine also.
Really good support... and they look great.

BiggerYellowTaxi · 05/05/2015 20:00

I love my Shoe Therapy shoes.

QueenBean · 05/05/2015 20:22

THANK YOU!! I love the show therapy ones, they are so pretty. Exactly what I want!

Fit Flops do a very plain ballet shoe. Comfy but looms neat.

LogonMounstuart · 05/05/2015 21:09

Look neat!

Maidupmum · 05/05/2015 21:14

I've got collapsed arches, plantar fasciitis and a bad back (what can I say, I'm a real catchGrin) and I second Fitflop ballet flats here

Toffeelatteplease · 06/05/2015 11:20

I did outline what a really supportive shoe should have.

Both the fit flop and the shoe therapy are both a decent set of insoles inside a pair of ballet pumps. Neither are offering support over the top of the foot.

Again you might as well save the money and buy one pair of decent insoles you can move between shoes

mirpuppet · 06/05/2015 11:35

How about a skate shoe type trainer?

Also all the bloggers are wearing retro running shoes -- so for this year I would walk to work in trainers.

QueenBean · 06/05/2015 11:41

Thank you toffeelatte, you did indeed for shoes that go over the top, but I really want professional looking shoes that I can wear out - so in terms of the foot support at the sole of the foot, what should I be looking for?

mirpuppet I don't want to walk to work in trainers, it looks really ugly and very unprofessional

I am back to update! I bought a pair from Gabor and also a pair from Seraphine. I am not pregnant so I hope no-one sees the delivery!

The Gabor ones are like walking on air. Seriously, it's like they're made of cotton wool mixed with angel breath but on a supportive bottom of rainbows. They made a difference to the lower calf / heel pain I was getting immediately.

Thank you for all your advice - the ones I have are actually really pretty and don't look like grannies shoes so can post the exact links if anyone is looking for the same Flowers
