Avene water spray

Indecisivejo · 27/04/2015 12:14

Is this hydrating or is it like those other water sprays that evaporate off of the skin and dry skin out??

Not really hydrating, but not particularly drying either. Has a lovely fine mist and is nice for cooling!

jjwhite · 27/04/2015 13:34

Waste of money... I got given a couple of these and they really are pointless (they are literally just water), I ended up chucking mine. If you're looking for a hydrating spray find something with other moisturising ingredients in it alongside the water e.g. glycerin, aloe etc. Clinique have just brought out a Moisture Surge face spray that I'm quite enjoying, Mario Badescu has an aloe and rose water spray which is cheaper I think and also pretty decent, and other similar sprays must exist out there...

Nabootique · 27/04/2015 13:35

What jj said. Unless there's a humectant in there then it will just evaporate. Skin is waterproof, after all! If you just want it for cooling you might as well make your own and put it in a spray bottle.

Thisishowyoudisappear · 27/04/2015 13:48

I use it for spraying my orchid. Not terribly useful otherwise.

Nabootique · 27/04/2015 13:53

Haha! Grin That is one pampered orchid.

FrugalFashionista · 27/04/2015 14:00

It's just water. I first received Avene bottles on long flights and use one to set mineral foundation. I do not believe there is anything magic in it. But the spray is finer than I get from a laundry mist bottle and the tap water around here is hard so I tend to keep a bottle of Avene in my bathroom.

Loving the pampered orchid Wink

Indecisivejo · 27/04/2015 16:05

Hmmmm Confused
I'm looking for something to use after cleansing to hydrate and calm my skin and also to make my skin slightly damp before applying my moisturiser. The problem is I'm allergic to fragrance in products and a lot of essential oils irritate so the majority of hydrating spritzes are no no's for me.
The clinique one sounds good although I have reacted to every single clinique product I've tried so far so am a bit wary Sad

Hmm that's a tough one... I think the Clinique could be your best bet though... You could always go to the counter and try it out there before you buy it (maybe ask if they have a sample size?) I haven't had much success with any of the Clinique products I've tried in the past (hated their 3 step program and moisture surge moisturiser) but do really like this and find it very gentle... I'm not sure what other products exist that are 'hydrating toners' but which don't have essential oils/fragrance etc. in them... Unfortunately a lot of brands will bung in some perfume etc. to make the product seem more luxurious - annoying but true...

Nabootique · 27/04/2015 16:12

Serozinc only has three ingredients and no fragrance.

Catswiththumbs · 27/04/2015 16:21

I really like it and use it after using the hydrating mask (avene) and when I have done my foundation- a fine mist stops it sucking the small amount of moisture from my skin and makes it look flawless.
Through the day it also calms my skin when it becomes tight/red/irritated.

I'm sure you could make your own with a spray bottle, but Iifes too short for leaky bottles!

jjwhite · 27/04/2015 16:21

Serozinc is great for oily/spot-prone skin (it has zinc as one of its three ingredients I think) but it's not very hydrating... I've stopped using it recently because my skin is dry from using retinoids and I think the Serozinc wasn't helping. That's why I switched to the Clinique spray as it seems to be better on the hydration front. That said, I'm interesting to hear if anyone has any recommendations for fragrance-free hydrating mists/toners as I'm by no means loyal to the Clinique one!

Germgirl · 27/04/2015 16:23

Superdrug do a vitamin e spritz thing. I bought it the other day. It feels lovely & soothing. It's only about £3 so maybe you could try it?

Twitchcoco · 27/04/2015 17:12

Have a look at elemis apricot toner. It comes in a spray.

Indecisivejo · 27/04/2015 17:12

I'm not sure about the serozinc for same reason as jj I think it will be too drying for me.
The superdrug one has fragrance in it Angry
Maybe I'll just carry on using just cleanser then moisturiser! My skin doesn't like being bombarded with lots of products, I'm a delicate flower Grin

OP posts:
Twitchcoco · 27/04/2015 17:14

Sorry, elemis has perfume in it

Indecisivejo · 27/04/2015 17:26

So many things have perfume in it really bugs me there's no need for it! The majority of things without fragrance are either crap or I have reacted to Sad
The thing that annoys me with brands like elemis and Clarins is if you ask one of the sales reps if the products are perfumed they say "none of our products contain synthetic fragrance, everything you smell is from natural ingredients nothing is added" then I read the ingredients list and see the words parfum/fragrance so I question them and they start waffling on! None of them seem to have a clue! Angry rant over lol.

Bojheybuddy · 27/04/2015 18:01

I've got really sensitive, eczema-prone skin and I use it instead of toner to get the last bits of cream cleanser off before putting moisturiser on. I find that the chlorine in tap water dries my skin out.

Twitchcoco · 27/04/2015 18:19

What about mixing rose water and glycerin? Would that work? You can buy empty spray bottles at Boots.

Indecisivejo · 27/04/2015 19:06

I do like the avene spray as i like the way my moisturiser spreads with the dampness but I'm unsure if it's making my skin feel tighter than when I don't use it Confused
I've tried using glycerin before but it stung quite bad (is ok in products tho) plus I'm very lazy even something that's really easy I just don't have the motivation for it lol.

www.boots.com/en/Boots-Essentials-Fragrance-Free-Facial-Toner-150ml_982453/

Any good? It has glycerin so should be hydrating in the sense it's a humectant.

Twitchcoco · 27/04/2015 19:23

And finally here is caroline Hirons' list of hydrating toners. Might be worth trawling through the ingredients.

HTH x

Sorry, having probs pasting!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/04/2015 19:27

I like the Avene one, but would only buy it when it's on offer.

Indecisivejo · 27/04/2015 20:12

Thanks Twitchcoco, I think I'm allergic to geranium which is in the trilogy as I've had reactions to lots of things which contain it, I may be wrong but it's been a common ingredient in things I've reacted to, I think anything rose is another trigger for me.
Not overly keen on boots essentials, I don't think the products have any benefits on the skin tbh. Thanks for your help tho.
