Help! Wedding in a tent - need a cover up!

I'm a guest at a wedding on Saturday. They're all rich (stag do cost 600 quid plus a 250 quid bar bill each - needless to say DH didn't go) but we're at the opposite end of the income scale. In fact I was planning on wearing a 50's style dress I made myself.

The blinking weather is looking decidedly chilly though and I don't have a suitable cover up. It's a white flared dress with turquoise pattern on it. My options are currently a black blazer or a fake fur shrug - neither of which particularly scream May wedding in a marquee to me.

So what can I do for under £30 by Thursday? Anyone have some fabulous ideas for wedding cover ups??

Oh darn - shameless bump as I'm desperate for help. Can I wear a blazer with a 50's style dress? Should it be one of them pashmina thingys. Can I wear fake fur in May??

My wedding was in a marquee in September. It wasn't a particularly warm daybut the generators, cooking equipment and lighting make it quite hot.

People wore jackets but the were abandoned. A pashmina might be the smartest option.

I think the fake fur shrug sounds good with a 1950's style dress!

Look in eBay for a fake fur shrug ? I have a cute 3/4 sleeve one from H&M which would be perfect.

Coast ones good & reasonable on eBay.

What about a little short sleeved shrug here - very 50s?

Pantsalive · 27/04/2015 14:11

Or a tie front one with sleeves here

Or the cashmere/cotton version here

Oh thank you thank you. so you reckon I can still get away with fake fur in May? I've got a fake fur shrug just wondered it might be considered too wintry - although it is snowing up here today Grin

I'm not convinced about fake fur in May but if it's going to be in a chilly marquee, then why not?

SunnyL · 28/04/2015 12:39

I ditched the fake fur and have gone for a white blazer. Surprisingly it's from Sainsburys and seems to be quite well made - it's not even 100% polyester!

Just got to hope that no one shops at Sainsburys and can recognise it!

Very smart. Sounds like a good outfit.
Enjoy the wedding.
Let's hope the snow stays away!
