Gorgeous open curls - Babyliss pro-curl or straighteners?

Hi, a friend let me her Babyliss (not sure of it was pro-curl or miracurl) on Saturday and I was impressed by how quickly you can get those lovely soft curls. It is very expensive, though. I already have straighteners and wonder if I can get a similar effect with them? I have tried before, though, and never managed to get the curls right - is it bad technique or do you definitively need the Babyliss?

I don't know. I never had much success curling with straighteners.

I love my Babyliss though. It is quick and I do it while watching TV. No need to sit in front of the mirror.

Thanks! It's so much money, though- and another gadget! Do you think it's worth it?

I can't get to grips with straighteners for curling but my friend does beautiful curls with them so it definitely is possible if you can't get the hang of it.

I prefer using straighteners or plain old big tongs. I like more messy beachy waves/curls though and I imagine the babyliss would be too perfect for me

I used straightners for curls for ages but then got a curling wand and it's been amazing. Even though I am pretty good with straightners, the wand is much easier, the results last longer and it all looks a bit more polished yet natural - I haven't looked back!

Thanks! Can any of you recommend a good video tutorial to get to grips with the curling technique with straighteners? I can have a go and if it doesn't work for me I can consider buying the Babyliss. Xx
