Sunsense, heliocare or la Roche posay suncream?

Read loads of reviews and wondering if anyone has tried any or more than one of these to compare?

I used to use la Roche posay ultra light fluid 50 but never use it anymore as find it too much for my oily skin

I've used sunsense and la Roche posay but unfortunately had an allergic reaction to both Sad

I haven't used sunsense. Have used the following, in this order:

Ultrasun - pretty good, quite thick and white though. You can buy it in waitrose which is handy
LRP Anthelios - expected to like it more, but actually liked it less than the Ultrasun. Very white, and didn't really settle on my skin properly. Since I've been on anti-acne medication (topicals) and moisturising more, this doesn't work at all. I tried it recently and it immediately bobbled into horrible great lumps.
Heliocare - recommended by my dermatologist so bought recently from Amazon after the LRP disaster. I love it! I still have to be careful putting it on, pat it on gently rather than rub in, but the gel formula is so much better than the others. It's lightly tinted and smells of apricots - lovely!

TL;DR definitely go for the Heliocare, I paid £20 for a 50ml tube which is similar to Ultrasun, but if you like it you can get a 200ml tube which I will do next.

HTH :)

I haven't tried Heliocare. I have tried LRP, Sunsense and Ultrasun. They all give excellent sun protection.
I found Ultrasun v sticky, very white, and quite thick to rub in. It wasn't great on my combination skin.
Sun sense bobbled like the devil on me, I couldn't put my make up on over it. So I wasn't keen. Maybe on its own it's fine. I really wanted to like it. It's slightly tinted, but a very pale tint, so the colour or lack of it was perfect.
I use LRP everyday. I use the ?ultra mat, the new fluid one for combination/oily kin. I find it way better than the old formulation. The old one had to sit on my skin, and while the sun protection was great, I didn't like it. This one is far less 'slicky', and leaves v little white cast. I also have the tinted one for no makeup days. It's a wee bit dark for me but it's not too bad.

I've used Sunsense and Heliocare.

I used Sunsense first and was still a bit spotty then and think it was prob better for the spots. But it did bobble - I don't wear makeup often but if I had, it would have been a problem.

Have just finished Heliocare gel. I really really liked this. Liked the texture, easy to put on, no bobbling - even under makeup which I did yesterday.

Not sure if Heliocare is my holy grail SPF, am about to try Avon Anew SPF50 but it's pretty close.

I have just purchased LRP Anthelios XL SPF 50 - the dry gel formula.
Its brilliant ,no oiliness and no bobbling.
No sore eyes either !

Thanks for the reviews, I'm now torn between the LRP face gel and the heliocare..does anyone know the PA/PPD ratings of these and if they prevented a tan? I'll be using it under makeup so the more matte it is the better..Off to have a look myself Flowers

I have v pale skin and Heliocare definitely prevents a tan - two weeks in August in Italy, didn't look like I'd been away Grin

They market as 'broad spectrum' which means the UVA protection should be equal to the UVB. So if you buy SPF 50, the UVA will also be v high.

I've just bought Vichy Velvety BB Tinted Cream. On offer £11.00 ish at Boots. Lovely and with SPF 50

RitaOrange · 26/04/2015 19:31

LRP is only £12.47 at Boots atm - half the price of the Helios.

Happy36 · 26/04/2015 21:03

I really like LRP, I have sensitive skin. It's so light I feel like I'm not wearing any cream at all. I think it's called Anti Helios XL.

Yourface · 26/04/2015 21:08

My derm recommended this www.amazon.co.uk/Heliocare-Spf-50-Gel-Ml/dp/B002KDTGVE. Have recently been away and it was fab.

If it helps he also recommended cetaphil moisturising lotion (has to be the lotion). Both are for oily skin.

Yourface · 26/04/2015 21:09

The helio is not cheap but the cetaphil is for a large container..so one offsets the other!! Smile

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 26/04/2015 21:35

Snap yourface, I just started using the Cetaphil lotion as recommended by my dermatologist... finding it a bit sticky I have to say, but it is very, very cheap compared to the 3 tubes of LRP I got through in 10 weeks!

On topic, does anyone know what a teaspoon of SPF (the amount you're meant to use on face) actually looks like out of the tube? Is it a 10p sized blob or what? I suspect I don't use enough, but have been trying to wear hats lately as well.

lurkingaround · 26/04/2015 21:41

I know, Blair! None of us are using near enough SPF. But at least if you use a factor 50, you're getting a relatively decent amount of SPF.
