Seriously considering copying Matilda Kahl and wearing the same thing to work every day...

Does seem quite extreme but I love the idea of this...as a time and money saver!

But I think I love clothes too much...

It's a bit extreme isn't it?

I'm trying to streamline my wardrobe so most things go together so there's less decision-making/stress first thing in the morning. Not sure I'd want to wear the same thing day in day out.

GwendolynMoon · 24/04/2015 15:24

Agreed curtains, I have done that too which has been partially successful but I suppose part of the appeal of this is that it is so simplified...maybe I should try and assign an outfit per day of the week to start with and see how that goes.

The nature of my job though means that on one day I need to wear a suit/tailored dress and on another I can basically wear whatever I like....which tends to be black jeans and a white t-shirt with a blazer/casual jacket generally.

I've tried to do that. At the weekend we do meal planning for the week and I do wardrobe planning!

GatoradeMeBitch · 24/04/2015 16:40

I knew it would be white shirt, black trousers. Wasn't there a Vogue editor who did the same thing? I think it's a good strategy if you're busy, I mean I doubt men sit down and plan their wardrobes for the week - it's shirt, tie, trousers, shirt, tie, trousers!

GwendolynMoon · 24/04/2015 19:51

Yes gatorade I think it was a Vogue editor.

Was discussing with a colleague and she said I would need to be careful with which white shirt to choose to avoid the 'waitress look'. Might give it a bash for a bit. Might be a fun experiment.

I think it's a great idea. Maybe not just one outfit but a mini-capsule-wardrobe of a few things that go together.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 24/04/2015 20:54

She has taken it to the extreme, but I often think a work uniform is a good idea. I pretty much already do it most days - would say 95% of the time I wear either a jersey dress, or pencil skirt and silk shirt combo. Not the same colours every day though!

I have to say the prospect of saving money in the long term by doing this is really tempting.

PoppyAmex · 24/04/2015 21:10

Yep, did that for years with black suits.

bloodyteenagers · 24/04/2015 21:14

Quite a few people I know do this, including myself. An acquaintance of mine around 15 years ago did this, all blue combo and I thought that's a bloody good idea. It is liberating not having to think about what to wear, although I do have two uniforms, one for the smarter days and one for the casual days. I don't do the black white combo though, you do a combo that works for you.

Duckdeamon · 24/04/2015 21:20

Wasn't there a male weather presenter somewhere who did this but with a suit for a year and no-one even noticed? whereas people often contacted the station about his female copresenter's outfits!

I don't think it'd be liberating to wear silk shirts every day, even assuming they are washable and not dry clean they are a PITA to iron! Perhaps the savings from not buying so many clothes cover the ironing service costs!

GwendolynMoon · 24/04/2015 21:35

I definitely won't be wearing silk shirts Wink

Black and white isn't the most exciting combo but I think it does work for me. I did try a version of this in a way when I went back to work after maternity leave. I spent a fair amount on buying 4 different black work dresses and mostly wore them on rotation but I have somehow got out of the habit. That worked well too.

Have ordered this shirt: m.asos.com/mt/www.asos.com/b-young/b-young-huxi-collarless-blouse/prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=4740919&clr=Offwhite&SearchQuery=Huxi&un_jtt_v_frompage=0&pge=1&pgesize=50&totalstyle=2 will see if it works but fear I may need to invest a bit more in something/s of a better quality.

Will see how committed I am to this idea once I have slept on it Wink

This is a great reminder! I did this a few years back for similar reasons, feeling overwhelmed in front of all the clothes. I bought 5 pairs of trousers (not all the same colour but all of a palate and fit that sit me) and about 5 tops (nor all one colour but again they all air me and go with the trousers) and 3 pairs of shoes. My wardrobe has started to expand again, 3 skirts, more tops. Although i am still able to get dressed in two minutes i might do a wardrobe cleanse this weekend.

ElizabethHoover · 24/04/2015 21:42

its a fricken boring outfit. And not very flattering.

I do think haveing certain colours is easier. Ones that suit you obv best!

GwendolynMoon · 24/04/2015 21:52

That sounds like a good plan too happinesstrap

I tend to be an all-or-nothing person so I quite like how extreme the one outfit idea is Smile

Am thinking 'my' version of her shoelace (which would be a step too far to copy Wink) could be a simple but interesting necklace. 2 possibilities:
This one

Or this one

Here's the male presenter who wore the same suit for a year and no-one noticed.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/04/2015 22:18

That shoelace looks ridiculous.

I have a bit of a 'uniform' in that I almost always wear a black top and a black jacket. But I like to vary the bottoms and to have a choice of black tops and black jackets, at the very least.

AmelieinOz · 24/04/2015 22:50

When I start working again (if in a non-scrubs environment) I'd definitely do this. And most probably white shirt/black trousers combo too.

SpecificOcean · 24/04/2015 23:09

I've just started doing a capsule wardrobe for work and it's working well, but this idea is not for me.
I would get bored and I do like to think about clothes otherwise I wouldn't be on here so much! :)
