It's such a mix, from jeans to slightly dressier dresses. No one really notices or cares but if you like an opportunity to dress up, take it!

Last time I went I wore a black silk top with a drapey jacket, jeggings and flat boots and didn't feel out of place.

I worked in London theatres for over fifteen years, and apart from the odd gala event people don't dress up for the theatre any more. Having said that At family shows like Charle you often see little girls in party frocks which is really sweet, but no one will bat an eye if you turn up in jeans and a hoodie or looking "evening out" smart.

Honestly - anything you want. Dress for comfort, as the space you will be sitting in may be not all that luxurious. (For me this usually means comfy-but-smart trousers and shoes or boots I can slip off if necessary.)

Great. So flares and Cami and drapey jacket will fit then?

Absolutely anything!

Your outfit sounds lovely - enjoySmile

I echo the dress for comfort advice.
I went to see this at xmas (fab show) & the seating is very cramped.

Enjoy!

One of UKIP's proposals in the 2010 election was the return of dressing for the theatre. Which is rather silly, but at least has the merit of being neither economically destructive nor overtly racist.

polyhymnia · 24/04/2015 16:11

Yes Rhyme your outfit will be fine. No one dresses formally for the London theatre and the advice about comfort is very sound. It's very cramped. I usually end up rolling up my jacket and putting it under the seat .
Enjoy.

Seriouslyffs · 24/04/2015 16:12

Your outfit sounds lovely- be prepared for temperature changes/ not rightness! I've regularly been boiling and frozen at the theatre.

polyhymnia · 24/04/2015 16:14

That proposal from UKIP, though not their most evil, is typically ghastly and I feel goes against the excellent modern idea that theatre going should be a relaxed occasion and also that the theatre should be accessible to all, whoever they are and however dressed.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/04/2015 16:15

No one dresses up any more - it's all jeans and shopping bags

I went to the ballet years ago in a cocktail dress and got really stared at

polyhymnia · 24/04/2015 16:16

Oh and be prepared for long loo queues btw!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/04/2015 16:17

Anything from jeans and a sweat shirt or dressier, no one will care or notice honestly,Nathan's the beauty of London. Have fun Smile
