Help! khaki hair!

Today I thought my light ash blonde hair was getting too bleached in the sunlight and a bit brassy, so decided to dye it. Now its a kind of dark grey/khaki colour. Do I need to get a stripper to take the colour out? what should I do?!

Honestly, I'd get to a hairdresser if you can. I messed up my hair once and tried to fix it myself to save money. I made it so much worse that it cost a fortune to turn it back to a normal colour - probably about £300 before I didn't look like a troll doll Shock

Save the hassle and get professional intervention sooner rather than later Grin

Oh but also, might be worth putting a conditioning pack on it tonight - redying within a short time period can turn your hair to straw so any extra strength will be needed

I should add my hair withstands even the toughest treatment, I've stripped it 3 times in one week before without any ill effects , and I'm no stranger to the odd dye job I'm not too chuffed with.

What colour did you put on it? Generally if it's khaki then you have put brownish over blond.. it's missing the red pigment (been there done that.. I ended up with hair that matched my barbour Shock

TBH your best bet is to go to a hairdresser asap and get it sorted properly!

I Googled and came up with ketchup, has anyone tried that??

Go over it with a warm blonde like a honey shade. You need to add red back in. It should look neutral after that.

Next time it is looking brassy use a violet shampoo like Touch of Silver to neutralise brassy tones.

That's happened to me when adding brown highlights on top of bleached highlights. It is easily fixed but I would not do it at home.

EuphemiaCoxton · 24/04/2015 08:33

Mine went a horrid shade of green when I did that. I fixed mine by going red before brown over a few weeks. I did have to get a major haircut for my poor damaged ends after that.

I never tried ketchup but you may as well, just add yourself 'could it look any worse?' If it could, don't.

MrsTShelby · 24/04/2015 09:30

Ketchup won't work.
You need to go red first.
If you but brown dye over bleached hair you do get that khaki shade.

TBH although you are experienced in home dying once it gas gone that khaki shade I would definitely get a hairdresser to do the next bits!

TheFlyingFauxPas · 24/04/2015 09:38

Ketchup brightens bleached highlights - I've done that. Don't know what effect it would have on your colour though.

AwayAndRunUpMaHumf · 24/04/2015 09:47

Haha, well I'm about to find out. though, seriously it's the most disgusting thing I've done, slathering cold ketchup over my head. currently wrapped in cling film and a towel, failing that I know a lovely hairdresser that can come to my house on short notice. I shall update in an hour Blush

Well, the ketchup definitely helped, but then I put in a honey blonde colour. Pretty much sorted, although not perfect.
