If you are pale (but not in a nice way) and blonde

What on earth suits you? I think I've been getting it wrong for years.

I have pale skin, not nice, milky white but a bit pink and light blonde/greying hair with pale blue eyes. I do tan a little bit but would like to not have to bother and dress in a way that makes me look OK pale.

The only colours I know for sure suits me are violet or denim blue and strangely - white. Cream makes me look like death.

I would buy some new bits for summer if I had a clearer idea of what to buy.

Green?

hawleybits · 22/04/2015 22:18

Mmmm, a yellow/green looks ok I think. I'm not sure.

Soft whites and denim blues are my everyday staples, some navy too.
Also try medium pinks (wild rose petal pink, mauve) and watermelon red. Bright reds work too.
Greens work really well, both midtone jades and emerald green and olive greens. (I have green eyes but my skin and hair sound like yours).
Yellow and orange do not work at all.

Blacks look terrific if they have velvety texture and if I wear red lipstick.
Browns are a tricky color for me, I don't wear them. Bitter cocoa powder brown is ok in eye makeup, reddish browns look horrific.
Grays are tricky too, pale and yellowish ones wash me out, but thundercloud gray is a terrific neutral. Taupe and rose gray/ rose beige are some of my best neutrals. Camel and beige totally wash me out.

In general, pale pastels wash me out, midtone saturated color is great, but I feel best in soft white, denim blue, olive green, taupe and dark gray. And I absolutely need pale cool pink blusher every day. If I don't wear it, I look ill.

nightswift · 23/04/2015 04:35

Im similar. I avoid pastels- beige makes me look sickly! Anything with out a definite colour makes me look a bit washes out.

Good colours for me a bold jewel ones - teals (but not bright green so much), stong blues, pinks, turquoise and navy and grey for base ccolours. I look good in white too strangely. I had my colours done which was good though i was wearing alot of my " good" colours anyway so it didn't change too much.

coffeenut · 23/04/2015 11:02

No pastels.

My neutrals are white, black, navy and dark charcoal.

As for colour - vibrant/saturated cool-toned colours look best on me.

I need to wear blush and black mascara to look awake. You can probably pull off a strong lip as well as long as you get the tone right.

I will have to try taupe frugal have avoided that one Smile

We sound similar in colouring, not sure why you find it difficult, when we get it just right it really looks nice!

I suit Navy blue, very pale or charcoal grey (not mid), pink (this is not a bad thing), lilac, white, breton stripes, small neat patterns, yellow, black, burgundy, mixed reads (but not a flat red for some reason).

Most of my stuff is navy, grey and white, but then i like the simplicity of that and don't feel restricted.

I look terrible in orange, brown, mid grey, cream, tweed and green.

Also try to figure out if you are cool or warm toned (skin/hair). I am cool toned, so if i wear a red, whether lipstick or tshirt it is best to match a cool red than a warm, more orangey red.I hope that makes sense! Also applies if you colour your hair, don't go for warm tones if you are a cool.

I am pale, but just a touch, and I mean barely a touch of dove summer glow (for fair skin) moisturised into my legs after a shower gives a nice bit of colour to take that deathly grey-white paleness away. It is pretty fuss free and I only apply it once after a shower and it is dry in a few hours. It doesn't go orange or streaky for me and i am so pale you can almost see through me.

hawleybits · 23/04/2015 18:35

Amazing! You all sound like me! I definitely agree with charcoal greys and pinkish/reds. Jade green is awful on me though, as is yellow and burgundy . I also think I can do black and look OK.

I usually let my limbs get a bit of sun and put some fake on my chest and face but actually, I just want to be natural without looking like death.

How do I figure out whether I'm warm or cool tone?

I'm a similar colouring I think. Apart from black and white, I can wear most colours - as long as it's the right shade, which for me means not too pale and not too bright.

Plum and deep pinks, purples and greens are probably my best colours/shades. I look shite in practically every so-called neutral apart from charcoal grey. Very dark brown is also ok although no-one seems to sell that at the moment.

GingerLDN · 26/04/2015 17:20

If you are blonde with a pinky tinge to your skin, then I'm pretty sure you are cool. Check your veins, if they are blue you're cool and if they're green, you're warm.

You want to go for colours with cool (pink/blue) undertones instead of yellow.

You could get your skin coloured matched for foundation using one of those electronic devices. I've come across them in boots no7 and Dior. They'll give you a diagnosis as to whether you are cool or warm toned.

You can go to a colour analyst but this would be a cheap or free starting point.

hawleybits · 26/04/2015 22:28

I think I guessed I was a 'cool'. I'm a bit inbetweeny though because I don't have really dark blue eyes - more mid to light but no yellow flecks according to dd.

The other odd thing is, if I buy a foundation, I'd always tend to get one with a slightly yellow tone as I think it looks better on me. Is that a big mistake? I steer well away from anything rosy, apart from lipstick. I think I need a make up lesson too.

I'm pretty sure I'm a cool but I suit some of the colours on that warm list (Ginger's link) e.g. teal, green and some shade of brown. And I look shocking in black which is listed as cool.

coffeenut · 27/04/2015 08:56

I worked out a while back that I am neutral toned ie both cool and warm tones. I'm def more cool than warm, however I'm not typically "rosy" skinned and I have green-blue eyes.

GingerLDN · 27/04/2015 11:06

I'm cool/neutral, with brown eyes. The guide might help but you should go to the shops, find some different coloured clothes, brights, pastels etc try them on and take pics. Then you can work out what suits YOU. The style doesn't matter, you can crop so it's just you and the colour.
