DH & I going for the weekend for our silver wedding anniversary.
I have a new mac, some comfy shoes and a stylish bag.
We're going to a smart bistro rather than fancy restaurant should I dress up or down?
Please help my look decent, I'm normally a jeans & jumper wearer.

As a long-term Paris resident I would strongly advise against pounding the pavements in ballet flats - your hips/knees/feet will not thank you. And, in any case, trainers are de rigueur right now and ballet flats are passé.

I don't have trainers (unless you count my tatty ones I play squash in) will driving shoes do?
Are 7/8th trousers OK for sight seeing in the sunshine? Have gorgeous Tom Ford sunnies and yummy bag.

If your driving shoes absorb shocks, they'll be fine. As will 7/8 trousers.

this is like a paris-fash- off isnt it?

who can wave the bigggest I KNOW PARIS FASHUN penis around
'Clothes are VERY passe in paris, you know, everyone is wearing corrugated paper'

watches intently

Well it was the question in the OP!

ElizabethHoover · 22/04/2015 19:47

if it is raining she will be in a coat all weekend and some trainers as she pounds the streets, if she is wise

womblingalong · 22/04/2015 19:50

lol at Fash Off!

Bonsoir · 22/04/2015 19:50

Trainers and a mac always a good idea!

Parisian women don't wear much make-up. Or bling. It's all in the grooming and good quality clothes.

I was going to make same point on ballet flats and lack of support.

As for driving shoes, I really don't think they're a great choice for a long day's walking in terms of support if they are the classic Tod's Gomito type sort with rubber ' bumps' on the bottom instead of nice thick soles. And I have tried it in Russell and Bromley Tod's -alikes.

Trainers would be way better for day with ballet flats saved for evening.

ElizabethHoover · 22/04/2015 19:55

the thing is that when you are there, in any big city you are part of a huge mass of tourists.

You all look the same, but the peopel who look COOLEST are the ones with comfy feet and who are dry or protected from the wind

ElizabethHoover · 22/04/2015 19:56

get a good coat, some cool trainers and sunglasses or a scarf in case of wind.

Nice colours.

that will be a) wise b) wearable again

shit I am turnning into someones mum

Bonsoir · 22/04/2015 19:57

If you can wear your bag across the body that is (a) wise (b) cool.

ElizabethHoover · 22/04/2015 19:59

SECONDED.

although with tits you have to look out.
plus check bag fits in guidebook

ElizabethHoover · 22/04/2015 19:59

one nice thing about being older is having the right stuff for the weather/occasion, isnt it?

Bonsoir · 22/04/2015 20:11

Take a small guidebook! Better still - photocopy relevant pages before you leave home and just carry the ones you need each day.

Nothing shouts vulnerable tourist more than a visible guidebook.

Bonsoir my handbag prideandjoy is not a cross body, definitely a hold by the crook of arm affair. It has a lock thing though.
I'm aware of pickpockets but should I worry about bag snatching?

Lived in London for years and I'm fairly city savvy.

Driving shoes are my most comfy, if not I'll have to go shopping Wink

Bag snatching does happen but mostly to Asian tourists (who carry wads of cash).
