A fascinator that doesn't look like something died in my hair?

I'm off to a wedding next week and there's a formal dress code with a colour theme of gold, white and black. I have a black and white dress that I wear to work sometimes and thought I could wear a fascinator to smarten up the look. Every one I've seen though looks like a dead bird or a gigantic rainforest spider. Any ideas for something classy?

A tiny top hat?

AndHarry · 21/04/2015 20:42

Cute but I'm a bit more conservative.

I wore a Holly Young headpiece when I got married last week.

I can vouch for the quality, and you can order through not on the high street too.

Do you live near a Get Ahead Hats showroom:

www.getaheadhats.co.uk/hat-gallery/

I have hired hats from one and loved them all. They do have fascinators, and they are high quality, so look chic, not cheap.

There's a nice black one on ASOS with a little round mesh veil which is quite classy. You'd also get it in time!

Congratulations Thursday!

I'm not near a Get Ahead Hats showroom but there are lots of lovely bits on the other two links for me to have a look at, thanks!

Fascinators are naff. Please don't

Thelovecats · 21/04/2015 22:57

A disc fascinator? Accessorize do one here but there must be lots of others

mrsmeerkat · 21/04/2015 22:58

I would try monsoon. They have very nice disc one that I have tried on and is flattering. In black and white

mrsmeerkat · 21/04/2015 23:00

X post

They really are the nicest I have seen.

AndHarry · 21/04/2015 23:18

That's sort of what I thought Elizabeth but whenever I see someone actually wearing one I think they look rather nice. I'll probably end up going for something boring like a flower clip though :o

Debenhams new in section has some pretty funky ones at the moment I'm looking for the same thing.

ElizabethHoover · 22/04/2015 01:19

Oh they are naff. Just get your hair done that morning. Otherwise you'll look all "brides at debemhams". Polyester horror

Bearleigh · 22/04/2015 08:06

I agree with Elizabeth about fascinators in general especially the cheap polyester ones. Go for something really chic or wear nothing.

Why not get a lovely glittery hair slide? I tried a diamante hairband on at Butler and Wilson a couple of years ago. It was amazing, really 1920s looking, but I didn't have an occasion to wear it. I've regretted not buying it ever since but have had success at weddings etc. wearing less fabulous sparkly hair accessories.

Much less naff than fascinators, which have been done to death. Samantha Cameron wore a sparkly hair slide to the royal wedding and looked great in it.

Or, why not go the full hat? A beautiful big hat stands out amongst all the Brides at Debenhams (that made me laugh!) fascinators.

AndHarry · 22/04/2015 19:57

Ooo yes, I like the Sam Cam look! I'm spoiled for choice here.

My wedding dress actually came from Debenhams :o

I found a great hat in John Lewis but that was 5 years ago...
