if you get freckles coming out during the summer , does it mean the sun must be getting to your skin i.e your sunscreen isnt doing its job ?

for the last 2 summers , despite putting clarins uv50 on my face i have had freckles come out . same thing is beginning to happen again .

i thought i was avoiding sun induced wrinkles , am i wrong ?

Hmm- I did think that new freckles were caused by sun exposure so you might be right. But then lots of people are born with freckles so those ones can't be!

How much sun cream do you put in, and how often? And someone in another thread said some sunscreen has to go next to the skin, not on top of swim, moisturiser etc.

Serum, not swim, sorry!

I'm a fellow freckler and in my experience if you're genetically programmed to freckle a few will appear no matter how diligent you are with slapping the factor 50 on.

The only way to absolutely avoid freckles is to stay indoors during daylight hours. And that doesn't sound like much fun.

I have freckles and they definitely get more prominent in sunny weather, regardless of sunscreen. If you're putting factor 50 on your face in the morning and not renewing it for a normal day then it's bound to let some sun through eventually - you don't have to be sunbathing but just walking across the tesco car park or sitting beside a sunny window at work or whatever.

My right arm is much more freckley than my left, presumably from driving in sunny weather.

As long as I'm not burnt I don't really worry about freckles.

Is the sun screen rub proof? It could be that you are rubbing it off when you apply make up.

tabulahrasa · 22/04/2015 14:06

Nothing other than not being in the sun at all actually stops sun getting to your skin - it just takes longer to do the same amount.

You can put all the sunblock you want on, but you'll still tan if you're in the sun all day, just not to the same extent as without it.

So it is doing it's job, it's just that it can't completely block out sun forever.

thanks for the advice everyone . i will be 40 this year and i seem to be getting very wrinkly recently ! have been trying to anti - age as much as poss and have just ordered some serum after reading up on here but i had hoped that the factor 50 was keeping the sun induced wrinkles away . but all these freckles had me wondering . i had freckles as a child but none as an adult until 2 years ago .

I think some sun must get through - hence new freckles.

I have a lot of moles which I didn't have as a child, younger person. So they are definitely caused by sunbathing. Also now have the 'reverse' freckles (white patches) - too many years caning the sunshine/sunbeds in the 80s. Sigh.
