Just about shrieked at the sight of my arms and legs in the garden today- they look like elephants knees !! Skin is dry and pleated and feels rough Sad

can anyone recommend a decent lotion (under a tenner if possible) and the regime to go with it please? I am determined to improve the way I feel and look; the skin on my my face already looks better after a couple of days.

watching with interest. Someone made mention of a Garnier body lotion that contains AHAs the other day, but I don't know which one it is! Sounds like it could be good though...

madmomma · 21/04/2015 17:55

body brushing is the biz for this. 60 secs for a quick once-over before shower or bath makes so much difference.
Plus, it sounds shit but a handful of milk powder in the bath really does wonders to soften skin, and is zero effort.

The main thing for dry legs I've found is to layer. So if you shave them in the (milk) bath before bed, then slap on oil (neutrogena body oil is great and cheap), and on top of the oil, slap on loads of something thick, like a body butter (the best ever is the l'occitane shea butter tub.) Chuck some old pj bottoms on so it doesn't ruin the bedding, and you should only have to do it a couple of weeks cos it moisturises so deeply.

madmomma · 21/04/2015 17:56

Ooh if you want aha-type stuff, the palmers smoothing body lotion is good. Nothing beats the cream over oil thing above though.

Truckingalong · 21/04/2015 18:35

Aveeno is always recommended on here, so I bought some and it is indeed super-moisturising.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 21/04/2015 18:39

Yes to aha body lotions.

www.boots.com/en/Dove-Pro-Age-Nourishment-Body-Lotion-250ml_1329565/ Has AHAs in.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 21/04/2015 18:41

Milk works because of the lactic acid (which is an AHA)

Nabootique · 21/04/2015 18:43

I knew they were a thing! Liking the sound of milk baths like Cleopatra.

Gatekeeper · 21/04/2015 18:45

Dove is a good price

I can't say Ay Haitch Ay lotions though...I always have to shout AHA!!! a la Alan Partridge

How much milk do we need in the bath? Intriguing.

StormyLovesOdd · 21/04/2015 20:38

I've been using the Superdrug Hot cloth cleanser every other day in the shower on my legs and arms, and following with Dove moisturiser. I've only been doing this for about a week and my skin looks better than it ever has.

Gardenpardon · 21/04/2015 21:26

I brought a Garnier 7 day one in boots today, I went for the one for dehyrated skin and it's in offer to a big bottle was about £3

ScarlettRuby · 21/04/2015 21:35

I'm prone to dry skin like you Op.

My favourite lotion at the mo actually has to be Nivea's in-shower moisturiser. I hate the sticky feeling after putting on moisturiser and then having to get dressed afterwards so this has been a god-send as you basically put it on and wash it straight off. It soaks in enough to keep the dryness at bay but keeps stickiness/oiliness to a minimum!

avagosling · 22/04/2015 14:32

Yes to body brushing and also - shea butter!

VeritableFeast · 22/04/2015 14:40

I'd say whatever lotion or oil you use, the trick is to do it regularly.

I've been moisturising my whole body after the shower or bath in the evening every day and its made a huge difference to my skin.

Also, ditch bubble bath and foam and use bath oil instead (or just some almond oil and a few drops of essential oils for scent).

DrankSangriaInThePark · 22/04/2015 15:04

Aveeno cream is the absolute best, but very boring Grin . The blue Nivea (bottle for dry skin) is also fabulous and cheap. I also rate Body Shop body butters.

Gatekeeper · 25/04/2015 12:42

in Boots today and bought a body brush and a large bottle of Garnier body lotion on special offer for £3 summat as I noticed Caroline Hiron recommending it on her website when browsing this morning; its the red one

Gatekeeper can you let us know how you get on with the Garnier lotion? I think it's what I'll buy next when my current body cream runs out but I'd love to hear if it's as great as Caroline et al. say...

cosytoaster · 25/04/2015 13:16

Body shop body butters always work best on my dry skin

Gatekeeper · 26/04/2015 08:54

Will do jjwhite; its not too heavy and scent is subtle which I prefer

I agree with whoever said, it doesn't really matter what you use as long as you put it on regularly. So find something you like and stick to itSmile

BallroomWithNoBalls · 26/04/2015 09:44

Reading with interest. It's the time of year to start panicking about baring legs Grin

I bought some bath oil and had a lovely bath the other day, I've had a couple of showers since but my skin still feels noticeably softer and I didn't even use lotion afterwards. It's just Emma Bridgewater stuff I got in TK Maxx - the Black Iris one, it smells lush - but probably any bath oil would do similar magic.

I also got some dry oil body spray from Tesco which is nice, Calcot Manor, smells nice a bit orangey and the packaging is a ripoff of Sanctuary stuff but the spray oil was only £3.50 and it's really easy to squoosh some on after a shower.

I know moisturising regularly is the key but it's hard to make the time to massage in lotions every day when you have preschoolers. I'm pregnant so trying to pamper myself though.

Body Shop butters are the bees knees, might have to get one when they next have a deal on the website.

MrsGuyGarvey · 26/04/2015 09:51

Last summer I experimented with using cracked heel cream on other dry bits including my legs and it worked a treat. Feels a bit dry/tacky when you put it on, but if you do it at night you wake up to soft skin. I bought the cheap stuff from Aldi - I think they have it in now.

Twitchcoco · 26/04/2015 10:25

I've just invested in the Decleor 1000 grain exfoliator. It's oil based that turns to a milk. Heavenly!!
