Dehydrated BODY skin

Hi all,

I gave birth to my second child 6 weeks ago, I ebf, I take daily pregnancy/breastfeeding vitamins, and I drink liters of water every day. However, the skin of my arms, shoulders, and calves is really dehydrated. Although I put on a lot of oil every morning and I try to take care of my hands as best as I can (a toddler and a newborn give me little time for cream on hands after each hand wash and so forth) I think it is getting worse.
I switched to oil as I wanted to avoid all the chemicals (I was using the Body Shop's body butter, those really thick ones, but I was not seeing such great results)
Did anyone have the same problem? How did you solve it?
Thank you!

Omega oil supplements. Really noticeable difference in my face and body skin.

Allie82 · 20/04/2015 20:53

Aveeno daily lotion is really good c

You could ask your GP to prescribe a really good emollient like Doublebase, in the big pump dispenser, as you won't need to pay for it. It is excellent, and not greasy at all I find.

Wenglish · 20/04/2015 22:42

Weleda skin food, I think they do an oil too. It's so good

rockybalboa · 20/04/2015 23:27

Lush Dream Cream. The fixer of all dry skin woes. Works wonders on my DS's eczema too. Amazing stuff. And no nasties.

Trilogy firming body lotion is a miracle worker

Im curious to see whether the cream change will make any difference...im thinking it's hormonal. Your hormones are all over the place but rather than external i would suggest something internal. In order to keep my skin healthy and my levels of omega 3 and fatty acids atgood levels, I drink a tablespoon of hemp oil everyday. It's healthier than olive oil so that would compliment your BF supplements and help your skin dryness.
Font take it from me though. Read about it n see. I started using it when DS was 9months old. Hes now 17months old n I'm 18weeks pregnant...my skin on my face has been full of rashes for tge past 3months and no cream or water really helps...it'll settle eventually Xx

Thank you all. I will look at all the options you suggested and report back in a few weeks!

Great. Best of luck! Wink

Definitely get your thyroid check, but you need the full report, not what GPs do. Dry skin is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. Meanwhile I really like shea butter for moisturizing

bitbybitbybit · 21/04/2015 15:19

ava how do you go about to get that done if GPs don't do the full one?x

Bonsoir · 21/04/2015 15:21

What do you wash with? A really good emollient body wash without soap (Avène, Eucerin, La Roche Posay) always helps with dry skin.

LineRunner · 21/04/2015 15:45

Bonsoir, I get Balneum on prescription and it's very good.

Bonsoir · 21/04/2015 15:58

I agree, Balneum is excellent - my father and sister use it (both have chronic underlying eczema).

wokeupwithasmile · 21/04/2015 19:35

Mmm, I do not think it is hypothyroidism, as far as I understand the only symptom I show is the dry skin, but I am meeting my consultant soon, so I will skip the gp and ask her instead for the full blood test. Thank you.

I use soap to wash, Dove, so I will look into no-soap body wash too, thanks! Bonsoir are you using one of the ones you mentioned? If so would you tell me which one?

Aveeno body wash is good too, and I always buy oilatum bath oil - I find the junior one is just as good as the adult version and it's cheaper!

FreeButtonBee · 21/04/2015 21:28

That eucerin atocontrol stuff is AMAZING. I use it on my 2 yo dd who has persistent excema and it is excellent.

Also double base dayleve moisturiser is great too. Can get it on prescription. But a 500ml bottle is about £12 and lasts ages. Not greasy and really really good. Was recommended to me by an excellent dermo.
