What's the difference

A blazer is a specific style of jacket, in the same way that an owl is a bird, but not all birds are owls Smile

Floisme · 20/04/2015 08:18

I think I'm with you. Blazers have shiny gold buttons and a crest. Everything else is a jacket.

KikitheKitKat · 20/04/2015 08:33

A la Alan Partridge Flo!

Floisme · 20/04/2015 08:35

Yes, exactly Kiki!

I don't think the rest of mn imagines them as be gilt. A meet up would look like a Howard's Way convention

Howard's Way Grin

Seriously, I think maybe people say blazer now just to differentiate the traditional jacket from the popular biker style?

TarkaTheOtter · 20/04/2015 08:53

I agree with dumpy and Kiki. A blazer is a jacket, but there are also bolero, biker and rain jackets so sometimes you need to be more specific.

KoalaDownUnder · 20/04/2015 08:55

I'm with you, OP.

In my mind, a blazer is only a thing we wore over our school uniform (private school, back in the day). Otherwise, I just call them jackets.

KoalaDownUnder · 20/04/2015 08:57

(Also, bloggers wear blazers. With a cropped cigarette pant and a red lip.Grin).

KikitheKitKat · 20/04/2015 09:01

What colour is the other lip?

NoRockandRollFun · 20/04/2015 09:22

Blazers are a type of jacket. Jackets are short coats. Coats are something you wear over your normal clothes, usually outside. There are many types of coat.......... I could go on but will give myself a headache.

NoRockandRollFun · 20/04/2015 09:25

a picture might help

KoalaDownUnder · 20/04/2015 09:26

Who knows, Kiki; but you'd certainly be rocking it with a smoky eye. (Like Cyclops, perhaps.)

burnishedsilver · 20/04/2015 09:29

And a great shoe.

KikitheKitKat · 20/04/2015 09:32

Not to mention a trouser...
That picture is really useful, thanks! I'm probably the only one who has just found out what a peacoat is!

MyNightWithMaud · 20/04/2015 09:32

I have nothing to say about jackets and blazers, but arf at the deconstruction of fashion blog speak.

::hops off in search of a clean trouser::

KoalaDownUnder · 20/04/2015 09:33

...and maybe a messy up-do, with a scarf for a pop of colour and a little cross-body bag. Perfect for the school run or a cheeky vino with the girls.

MyNightWithMaud · 20/04/2015 09:34

Great minds, Kiki!

BallroomWithNoBalls · 20/04/2015 10:30

A jacket could be denim, or leather, or a Barbour type affair.

Blazers are a bit passé I think now anyway. I have a Hush jersey one I have worn for over a year but feel I should hang on to it as it's supposedly a classic and easy to wear - I feel like a prefect and a bit of a twit when doing sahm stuff.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 20/04/2015 10:30

Argh haven't worn

DownWithThisTypeOfThing · 20/04/2015 10:36

A blazer is a specific type of jacket.

I'd describe typical blazer as having lapels and usually in a fitted style. And buttons up to no higher than clevage.

A denim blazer would have lapels whereas a denim jacket would have collars or be collarless and could button to the neck. Or have a zip.

ElizabethHoover · 20/04/2015 11:37

i think a jacket is less formal maybe

a blazer is prefecty
