Shoe advice needed

Please help! I was told by the podiatrist yesterday that I have the start of arthritis in my big toe and that I need to change my shoes. Apparently I need a deep shoe that's not dead flat with laces or a strap. I'm resisting at the moment but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for sensible shoes that don't look like something my mother would wear!

Thanks in advance.

I have the same thing. Are you looking for work or play? And have you been prescribed orthodotics?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/04/2015 21:33

I need both really although work is probably more important. I haven't been prescribed orthotics yet as the podiatrist is hoping a change of shoes will help as it's in the early stages.

At the moment my shoe collection consists of boots, ballet pumps, Skechers Go Walks and trainers and Birkenstocks. Obviously I can't afford to replace everything despite what he said!

How long have you had this if you don't mind me asking? At the moment I'm feeling a bit upset about it - I'm 40 and had been feeling better about myself than I had in years!

37, have had it for 6 years. It is a literal pain. I have just now ebayed the last of my heels (sob). Having said that, there are worse afflictions and flats are fashionable. There's a website called In Brogue full of lovely shoes that I can wear.

BTW, if you don't have to wear othodotics, I strongly recommend following the podiatrist's advice and seeing if you can put that off as long as possible.

Russell & Bromley have some lovely high instep loafers for work stuff but they are expensive.

Do you wear trainers?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/04/2015 21:45

Not good, you have my sympathy. I think it's been brewing for me for a few years now.

I'll have a look at In Brogue and start saving for Russell and Bromley!

I do wear trainers for walking (too many joint problems for anything more strenuous Sad) and at the moment I'm finding Skechers memory foam ones are brilliant - they fit me well, aren't too flexible and the memory foam is supportive.
