Bra Interventionists please help

I have skim read all of the bra interventionist threads in the past agreeing with everything they said, safe in the knowledge I was in the right sized bra. Today I put on a new dress and yet again the bra was showing through the armhole and I thought maybe I am in the wrong size.

I have measure and I am 28 inches under the bust and 35 over the bra. I also measured bent over with boobs handing free as I couldn't remember the right method and I am 38 inches. I'm wearing a 32F in some bras and a 32 E in others. Am I in the right size? I'm actually scared what size you are going to say! And if I am in the right size can someone please tell me a bra that won't show through the armholes, thanks

You want a 28 band for a start but I'll leave the cup to the professionals as I can never remember which are doubles. But possibly 28H?

Donthate · 18/04/2015 10:48

Holy crap. I need a shopping trip. I was so sure I was in the right size too.

28 and 35 would be a starting point of a 28F in theory however, could you do the overbust again please? The way to do it is with your bra off and leaning forward so your breasts are dangling down. Your bra will alter the measurements.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/04/2015 10:50

To give you an idea, if I measure myself over bras I can get a variance of about 4" depending on the cut of the bra!

Donthate · 18/04/2015 10:51

28 and 38 is the dangling method.

Your measurements suggest a 28F but if you're already wearing a 32F then a 28F isn't going to have enough volume for you. If you scoop, have you got any overspill? I'd try a 28FF/G.

The armhole things is usually the fault of the dress rather thank the bra although some brands so come up higher at the side than others. What are you currently wearing?

balletgirlmum · 18/04/2015 10:53

No, you're in the wrong size.

By those measurements you should probably be in a 28 band, maybe 28GG but try a cup size either way depending on the brand.

SorrelForbes · 18/04/2015 10:53

Oops didn't see the second measurement. You're looking at least a 28G I'd say.

Donthate · 18/04/2015 10:56

Thanks everyone. I am in shock I will have a shopping spree and report back. I'm losing weight at the minute. If my under bust goes below 28 are there any bras out there that go to a lower band?

Oh and currently wearing various Freya bras and a playtex shirt bra I bought in John Lewis which has been fantastic.

28 and 38 would be around a 28GG. Now, a 32f isn't all that much smaller in cup terms, it's just that the band is bigger. For every band size you go down you need to go up one band cup size at least to maintain the same boob space. So a 32F=30FF=28G. Personally I find it's often more like down two bands, up 3 cups so this seems reasonable.

In terms of visible bras at the armpit...changing size might help as the straps etc will be further in. I suspect you might also want to look at brand with narrower cups like Cleo. However...many many dresses are simply not cut to accommodate a well fitting bra. It's a pain in the ass for many of us

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/04/2015 11:00

xposted. Freya have quite wide wires - so if you compare the same size bra in freya and cleo you would find the freya would be wider and shallower, whilst the cleo would be narrower and deeper (so your boobs would be more forwards than side if that makes sense). They might hold the same volume of breast tissue but in difference ways.

I would think if you're already a 28, unless you're very very petite you won't lose much from that area. Rib cages don't tend to be that fatty, and I've read here that very slim ribs can't take a tight band the same way that a squidgier rib cage (like mine!) can.

Donthate · 18/04/2015 11:01

That makes sense thank you. I will take the dress with me to try on with the bras.

Dd is currently a 28 D but she measured 26/27 for a while & we had to go up a band size to get anything at all for her.

Donthate · 18/04/2015 11:05

I'm not petite at all (just a shortarse) my ribcage must be my skinniest point Grin
