I'm rather pale skinned and cool, if I get a tan I have to show off my tan marks to prove it. I don't even stay red. People comment on my photos that the lighting was bad and I have to point out that that's what I look like.

I use the lightest foundation of any brand but still finding they look a little tanned on me. I'm adding talc to powder which helps but I can feel it, but I'd rather just buy something that works. Any suggestions?

Definitely watching with interest. I am very pale and I'm using the lightest shade of no7 foundation and I still feel orange. My skin can be blotchy and I have very red cheeks so I don't feel comfortable with nothing on.

Check out this recent thread for ideas.

My suggestion: Missha #13 BB cream with MUFE translucent powder worn on T-zone. Both are gothic pale! Most foundation ranges start way too dark. Also check out the blog Bad Outfit Great Lipstick - she has milky white skin.

Mac and Illamasqua make white foundations to mix with so you can lighten a foundation. I'm sure there are other brands that do them too.

They might have more than this one, I'm not completely sure

www.illamasqua.com/shop/complexion/foundations/ - they have several foundations that come in white.

I'm interested too.

I've never worn foundation. When I was younger I used to use translucent powder just to even out my skin, but now I'm 40's I'm finding my loose powder is just caking and emphasising wrinkles.

Should I try pressed powder, or will that do the same thing? Or is BB cream the way to go? I don't want to change the colour of my skin, just make it appear smoother.

After several weeks wearing BB creams, I have to admit that I get the best color match and most flawless finish from Lily Lolo (the three palest shades are my go-tos). Just wish it worked better with sunscreen. It is fine over serum or moisturizer but worn over sunscreen it tends to get too chalky and ghostly. An overdose of titanium and zinc I think.

FrugalFashionista · 17/04/2015 11:30

Micah I started out with pressed powder in my teens, but these days loose powder is too drying and cakey and makes my skin flakey. If I prep with serum or moisturizer, wait for 10-30 min and then apply mineral foundation (kabuki, buffing, tiny amounts), then set it with a spray of Avene thermal water, it does not accentuate my lines. BB creams are a great alternative but finding a pale enough shade is tricky. Missha #13 is very pale but quite sheer. I have a slightly uneven skintone so prefer medium coverage. Tinted moisturizer is definitely not enough for me.

Have you tried a colour match foundation? Where they make the foundation to suit your skin colour? I think Boots No7 do it and a few of the more expensive brands.

I am very pale and I use no7 tinted moisturiser & illuminator in the palest shade. Age 40

I've not been on for a few days. Thanks to everyone who had replied.

I normally use No7 and the lightest shade they do which looks a little tanned on me. I have an autoimmune disease so my skin can be quite red at times, doesn't affect my foundation colour but does mean I need something strong to cover it.
