I've never had my eyebrows 'done'.

Early thirties and I've still never got around to it. I remember years ago trying to pluck a few stray brows and it hurt like fuck so u never did that again.

I currently use a beauty trimmer just to contain the middle area and stop a mono brow situation, but it's my birthday soon and I'd like to sort myself out once and for all!

Any tips?! I don't even know where or what or how much or if I should warn them or anything!!! Please advise me Smile

I went plucking> waxing > threading and threading was the best. if they have fast light fingers it should be quite quick and painless. Cost varies, house of Fraser often have a concession which is £££ but a local salon does brows and top lip for a fiver so search around.

And top tip? Eyebrows should look like sisters, not twins!

Also YouTube would have good videos about shaping, and boots used to do a stencil kit iirc

I paid £22.50 for a HoF threading. They removed approximately 3 hairs and complemented me on my great natural shape Hmm

I'm the same as a pp, have gone from plucking, to waxing, to threading and have just tried sugaring. Threading wins hands down, I get mine done for £7 in my local salon. I once did got them done at a stall in the shopping centre for £5 and they were dreadful, like the girl had trained in the 80s when a thin strip was all the rage.

I'm definitely not going to attempt anything myself, I am far too cack handed to get anything close to being even!

Do you have to book an appt? If so do I tell them they'll be starting afresh rather than a touch up job? Do i have to decide how they'll look or will they use their experience?

I can't believe I'm sooo clueless.

I never got my eyebrows done until I was in my 30s and now I get them done every 6/8 weeks (I had to grow them in after years of over plucking and some grow in white). I get them waxed and tinted at a local salon.

dd (11) got hers waxed last month as she was self conscious about her brows meeting in the middle.

If you have fb you could ask for your friends recommendations

BeansMrSeanAndHeinz · 14/04/2015 21:20

its not clueless, these are good questions.

If you go for threading you might need to book - it's popular where I live so lots of salons do it and you can walk in.

The trend now seems to be quite strong brows rather than over plucked seventies style arches so you can congratulate yourself on being fashion forward

BeansMrSeanAndHeinz · 14/04/2015 21:22

Like pixie I get mine done every 6 weeks or so, except when I was pregnant and they grew so luxuriously it looked like a second fringe

avocadotoast · 14/04/2015 21:25

It depends on what you're after, I think.

I used to get mine waxed, then threaded, then did nothing (tried to sort it myself) and now I get them waxed from time to time.

I've found Benefit to be the best (if there is a brow bar near you) but they are a little pricey. That said, they focus on giving you a really nice arched shape and fill them in afterwards.

I've learnt that it's worth going to see someone who really knows what they're talking about (which is easier said than done, admittedly). Don't be embarrassed to ask for their opinion on what will look good for you.

For a basic, base start, google HDbrows.

It's a bit forumlaic but good for a first time.

HD Brows are very good when done properly.

The "scouse brow" (sorry to any Liverpudlian ladies) as it's known is not HD Brows done properly.

Also LVL lashes are great - a perm and tint effectively so you barely need mascara for 6 weeks.
