Due with DC2 anytime and started to think about what on earth I'm going to wear afterwards. Tbh I never got back to a comfortable shape after DC1 so although and hung around in awful clothes which definitely did not help my mental health.

so, this time I'd like to make more of an effort from reasonably early days (say 3-4 weeks?). I know my body and so know I'm unlikely to love it until baby much older, but does anyone have good suggestions for in between styles and flattering looks for the big bellied? I have some feeding tops but BF did not go well last time so not elusively looking for low cut stuff

thanks

I'm watching with interest - DS is DC2 and although I managed to lose weight while on Mat Leave last time, I've piled it on since I was back at work.

I'm thinking that summer weight harems, vests, long cardigans and some of my existing dresses will see me through the first few months. There are some great floaty vests around which worked well for much of my pregnancy and skim the belly.

I'm due in May and currently looking for summer dresses that are not jersey and in which I can breastfeed ie crossover v neck or button front. Can I find them? Can I hell

strawberry01 · 14/04/2015 20:46

DD was a summer baby and to be honest I spent the full summer in maxi dresses or leggings, loose tshirt with vest layered under with flip flops.

I could just throw them on in the morning, be comfy all day and with hair up in a messy bun and sunglasses on hopefully I looked semi decent Grin

Sorry for all the typos in the OP!

anyhow, yes I think harems and long vests could be a good start

maybe ill just blow the budget on amazing shoes and hope noone notices the rest of me?!

I want advice on this too! Baby due in the middle of summer. I BF my DD for 7 months but it was winter and layering was ideal for this. So many nursing tops are right around the tummy area. I'm thinking I'm going to look for floaty t shirts/vests that I can layer if I need to and maybe harems as suggested by someone else. Loose style dresses are ideal but they have to be proper nursing ones if you BF really. I'm on a limited budget too Confused

Tight not right... Must preview next time Blush

Hello! I had a baby this time last year and spent the summer in maxi skirts and long vests that I could get easy access to my boobs. I didn't buy special feeding clothes, just a breastfeeding cover. I also lived in M&S harems (they have them in again, though this time in Jersey I think). I bought maxi skirts in my pre-pregnancy size and just let them stretch. I'm about 10lb off pre-preg weight and they still fit nicely so was a good idea as I can wear them again this year. I also got a cross over dress from fat face that I wore a lot.
The M&S harems are lovely as they have an elastic waist, you'll find them in the beachwear section. I've spotted a gorgeous Jersey skirt in phase eight though they also have lots in monsoon. All elastic waist but very nice.
Hope this helps. Good luck ladies!

I'm due in June so this is something that's been on my mind too.

Maxi skirts are a great idea. Thanks!

strawberry01 · 15/04/2015 01:56

I wore ones similar to this asos

Shift dresses worked well for me- looser so covered my stomach area. Easily dressed up or down.

FreiasBathtub · 15/04/2015 07:47

HeyMickey - don't laugh - Sainsburys! Just got a lovely black cotton broderie anglaise shirt dress and a colourful printed dress with a button front in my v small local one. Would imagine the bigger ones have even more choice.

SophyStantonLacy · 15/04/2015 07:52

Ooh I am due early July. Desperate to find button down maxi dresses that I can size up to wear in pregnancy & then on through the summer... Am even considering making some! Otherwise it will be vest tops & skirts... It's always hard finding button down stuff ime, will have a look at Sainsbos, thanks mickey

Knittingbat · 15/04/2015 08:05

Great suggestions! Although, why hide your legs when they are the thing that never changes! And you will get a nice colour on them from schlepping round the park/ streets for hours!

OP I was exactly the same, all my friends seemed to snap back into size 10 and I definitely did not! Angry I found a black jersey below knee pencil skirt from Asos and a pair of khaki chino shorts from tesco for £8 the most useful, dark vest on top then boxy tshirt with print (h&m) or floaty top or large scarf wrapped round neck. Hair in messy bun, sunglasses! Oh, and pair of v soft skinny jeans two sizes up from primarni vg, then bought 'lift and sculpt' skinnys from m&s which did work and made me feel better.

doctorboo · 15/04/2015 08:47

I'm due the end of June and am already in heavier cotton maxi dresses from h&m.

Post preg, I'll be in maxi skirts teamed with thicker strapped vest tops and also kaftan type floaty tops which are thigh length with a v thin strapped vests underneath, paired with leggings.

Once baby's here I'll be home with a just-turned 4 year old and 20 month old, so I want to be comfy in the garden but decent enough to meet up with friends/family in public places Smile

All of me changes in pregnancy, my legs are already back at the tree trunky cankle stage @ 29+ wks and have got even more varicose veins! Oh the glamour of pregnancy Wink Smile

SpaghettiMeatballs · 15/04/2015 08:55

I'm loving this seasons Boden chinos. Very flattering around the mum-tum area and look fab with sandals or flats.

SophyStantonLacy · 15/04/2015 09:22

knittingbat because you can't be arsed shaving?!

Thelovecats · 15/04/2015 09:23

Has anyone seen some loose vests for summer? I want them for an over layer so I can do the vest down top up thing. Due mid June. I want a maxi skirt too, but I can't do the tube shape, or pleats due to generous hips! Where are you getting your maxi skirts from?
I have this tunic from hm which I think will be quite flattering on the post birth belly.

waiting78 · 15/04/2015 12:56

I made a trip to Next this morning. got a couple of harem pants (amazingly they do actually fit over my huge bump but are obviously too tight round waist band). Also got a couple of kaftan style tops which should be ok for lifting up and layering with a nursing vest.

I've got this and find it flattering. And you have to size down as it's from Next which is always a bonus

nottheOP · 15/04/2015 13:18

This would probably work for the legging, vest baggy top combo too
