Ecco have some styles with removable insoles so you can pop in an orthotic.
Not sure how stylish you'd think they are, though!

FestiveRoad · 14/04/2015 21:56

Here is a previous thread which has some suggestions

Also

Shuropody might have some.

Ecco shoes aren't smart enough and they are all horrible. Sad

FestiveRoad that was my last thread asking for help Grin. Bought some DM boots after that one, but still haven't found any shoes for the summer.

I bought these for work www.clarks.co.uk/p/26101004
They also have some nice brogues in just now x

FestiveRoad · 15/04/2015 14:26

oops! Blush

Must pay more attention! Grin

FairyBiker · 15/04/2015 19:54

Went into Clarks today and they have started doing removable insoles in normal shoes.
Both www.clarks.co.uk/p/26108388 and www.clarks.co.uk/p/26106514 have them, although the website only says one of them has.
not sure how happy the podiatrist would be with them, but as long as my insoles fit I'm happy

These fit particularly well with mine: www.clarks.co.uk/p/26108042
though I returned them as I decided I didn't like the look enough, and I can get away without the orthotics now if I'm not doing a lot of walking. If I had to be on my feet all day in smart shoes they would be my choice of what I've tried on this year, though somewhat reluctantly as the styling could be much better.

Flats with ankle straps are a personal favourite, and a style I target for trying on if in need of smart shoes for longer wear, as I think they look more elegant than clumpy Rocket Dog style mary-janes, and they stop the foot moving about so much at the heel (where the fit tends to be worst because of the orthotic).

Not sure what your foot issues might be of course, but these are by far the most wearable and well-fitting heels I've ever tried:
www.hotter.com/gb/en/womens/womens-heels/michelle-heels
Some podiatrists will do special extra orthoses to wear with heels, but others are not so keen on the idea.
I can wear those happily for several hours without orthoses. It's nice to have some heels that fit, even if the style is remarkably similar to those my late grandmother wore.

These loafers: www.hotter.com/gb/en/honiton-shoes
have quite a deep heel cup, but if you have thick orthoses, like the ones a lot of podiatrists cut on site, they may not be deep enough. (I have thinner plastic ones from a brand called Pegasus, which might give access to a slightly wider range of shoes.)

I've been wearing orthotics for nearly 20 years but have also spent quite a lot of time in bare feet at home, and found that big toe separators like this www.boots.com/en/Boots-Toe-Spreader-1-Spreader-_1154682/ (which can easily be worn inside DM/army style boots) have been at least as helpful in stopping bunions getting worse as the orthotics.
(Also things like this: www.amazon.co.uk/Bunion-Splints-Podiatrist-Treatment-NeoPhysio/dp/B0073V1FSU/ref=zg_bs_2826221031_5 but I haven't used them much for years as they are a nuisance if you have to get up in the night, and not something most people would want to wear if sharing a bed with a partner.)

ImpatientGriselda2 · 16/04/2015 01:14

Oh, and the Festival Glee came up really narrow - if I'd wanted to wear that with an orthotic I'd probably have had to go up a whole size in the length, even with the wide fit. YMMV.

RonaldMcDonald · 16/04/2015 01:30

Lol

I needed for plantar fasciitis last season
T'was hell

atonofwashing · 16/04/2015 13:40

I have worn orthotics for almost 10 years. Terrible plantar fasciitis I've never been able to get rid of.

Sadly I have yet to find lovely and stylish shoes. I live in trainers, fit flops and birkinstocks. I did find a lovely pair of cream brogues by carvel a in John Lewis. They are ok with my orthotics. IME heels dont take orthotics well. Supergas have some fun colours and come In leather too. They work well. Weddings and smart events are a nightmare. I use cushioning where I can and suffer in silence for a week after. Boo hoo.

There are lots of stretching exercises you can do to ease the pain.

HTH. Good luck.

FairyBiker · 18/04/2015 13:47

I have plantar fasciitis too, right foot is worse than my left, it hurts every time I get up to walk.

Do you find the excercises help?

Just going through the same struggle myself after spending the winter in boots. I like the look of those Clarks Henderson Jazz that ImpatientGriselda2 linked but suspect they'll be too high across the instep for me

AngelWings74 · 18/04/2015 21:35

Electric shockwave therapy has a good success rate for plantar fasciitis.

Fozzleyplum · 18/04/2015 22:23

I wear orthotics and struggle to keep shoes on unless they have a strap. For work, these are the ones I have:

www.hotter.com/shop/SearchDisplay?searchTerm=valetta&categoryId=&storeId=10151&catalogId=11551&langId=44&pageSize=15&beginIndex=0&sType=SimpleSearch&resultCatEntryType=2&showResultsPage=true&searchSource=Q&pageView=

Fozzleyplum · 18/04/2015 22:25

Not sure the link works - the shoes are Valetta by Hotter www.hotter.com

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 18/04/2015 22:45

I usually go up a size & never commit to buying anything until you've tried it on with the orthotics. So Amazon & Ebay are mostly out for me.

It's rubbish isn't it. I've worn orthotic arch supports for over a decade. I can only wear my supports with flat shoes, so trainers, lace-up flat canvas shoes etc. I've found they don't work with slip-on type flat shoes, as they don't allow sufficient heel height at the back of the shoe, for it to stay on my foot. I can go without wearing them for the odd day but I feel it after.

The selection in most shops is woeful. And I'm a size 3! And I don't do sparkly, or bright, or shiny. But I want them to look stylish now and still look good in a few years.
