Mine is long and used to look amazingly lush but now only looks like that when I have had it dyed - to cover the greys :(
How do you get yours looking good?

I use a conditioning treatment once a week and Argan Oil serum stuff every time I wash my hair. I also use heat protector (GHD one smells great) when I dry it. My hair is glossy and swishy, which is pretty good considering I bleach it regularly.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/04/2015 20:14

Cold water rinse.
Nothing beats it.

Willow33 · 14/04/2015 13:38

Thanks will try those. Which conditioning treatment do you use whatadrain?

cold water rinse using bottled water, not tap water, as the water here is extremely extremely hard!

Bearleigh · 14/04/2015 13:48

I brush with Kent (bristle) hair brush, and I stopped having it coloured.

I last had my hair cut around 10th December, got my next appointment tomorrow! I have a short graduated bob. I home-dye it every 6-8 weeks, wah condition and blow dry every day.

It looksin great condition, weirdly! Glossy, smooth, not even fluffy at the ends. I'm 40 and 10 years ago was another story with my hair. I don't have any secrets.

This month I'm washing with Gliss in a gold bottle ('silky' something or other), conditioningwith Revlon in a huge bottle with the red cap. I buy whatever is on offer, although never plastic Pantene or Fructis

I don't rinse with cold water in winter cos I'm not mad Grin but do in summer.

MyFriendsCallMeOh · 14/04/2015 13:51

Apple cider vinegar rinse, works brilliantly.

whatadrain · 14/04/2015 14:02

Willow I tend to use whatever is on offer. The Argan Oil serum is from Primark though!

I love this conditioner by BedHead. I remember when I was working in a salon and this range (Urban Antidotes) first came out and I loved them all straight away! I probably leave the conditioner on for about 10 minutes.

If you have a B&M near you, they also stock some of the BedHead rand and sell the big bottles for about £9.99, I think they are. They also used to stock Tigi Rock Out Shine Blaster which is in a blue bottle but I can't seem to find many online other than huge bottles. If B&M still have it in store, that's worth a buy too!

Other than that you can get hot oil treatments like this one from Avon.
avonshop.co.uk/product/haircare/argan-oil-/advance-techniques-360-nourishment-moroccan-argan-oil-heat-infusion-treatment.html
You just put the bottle into a cup of hot water for about a minute so it heats the oil inside, then use it as a conditioner!

Also, stating the obvious but having a hair trim does help as well (I put this off for a long time!).

When washing your hair, use warm water which opens the hairs cuticles, allowing the shampoo and conditioner to get in to your hair, then rinse the conditioner (or oil) off with cold water, which closes the cuticle, keeping the shine in.
The same goes when you dry your hair, it's best to do it on a low heat or even just cool.

Use an oil after drying your hair too, like macadamia oil.

Good luck Grin

best ever conditioner for shiny hair is the tresemme mask in the red pot.

zipzap · 16/04/2015 00:53

I got a small tube of Philip Kingsley elasticiser in a beauty box from m&s around christmas time and it's fantastic - I really notice a difference when I use it. It says to leave on for 10 mins before washing but I gave it a good hour and my hair looked better than it had done for years.

Apparently it was created for Audrey Hepburn - and if it's good enough for her I figure it's good enough for me!

AdoraBell · 16/04/2015 01:12

I'm just here to nick ideas. Mine alternates between glossy and wirey almost with each wash, regardless of what I useConfused

RedRugNoniMouldiesEtc · 16/04/2015 02:38

Use conditioner first then shampoo, usee about half your usual shampoo. Every few weeks you'll need to shampoo first then condition /shampoo. Honestly it's incredible. This is dd who uses this method.

AdoraBell · 16/04/2015 03:31

Wow. That looks amazing Red I shall try that in a couple of days. I washed mine today with the same shampoo and conditioner as the last time and it's a wirey dayHmm

WildBillfemale · 16/04/2015 06:43

Get a really good haircut for your hair type, then you don't have to use lots of styling and heat to finish it.
Air dry as much as possible.
Avoid colour/bleach etc leave hair virgin
once a month detox shampoo and deep conditioning treatment.

The trick is to do less really. Wash/condition, leave

NotLoveActually · 16/04/2015 08:11

This is going to sound really strange but horse shampoo and conditioner is great. On the app so can't link, but it's Mane n tail shampoo from Amazon Grin I'm not joking, honestly Smile

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 16/04/2015 08:58

I apply by scrubbing shampoo into dry hair. I leave it in for a 1 minute. Then I rinse.
Then I squeeze my hair and then apply conditioner which I leave on for about 5 minutes.
The shampoo and conditioner I use is Herbal Essence Dazzling shine

avagosling · 16/04/2015 09:52

Apple cider rinse works great, as also does pure argan oil. I also love camellia and avocado oils as intense hair treatment a couple of times a week. Eating more protein and fish has helped too!

Last year sometime I also posted here about what a state my hair was in. It has always been in nice condition and shined all the time years back. Then i started dyeing it at home a few years back, and I really do think that all the constant dyeing was the problem.

I don't have grey hairs (thankfully - I am 45 so i hope it continues) so I was only dyeing it because I though the colour was a bit meh really, I am a light redhead.

So I changed the dye to the Nice and Easy non-permanent one last year (as this lasts amount the same amount of time as the permanent one as the colour just faded and looked awfu,l so i dyed again... vicious circle). I also changed my shampoo and conditioner to John Frieda Full Repair and did a treatment once a week. I just noticed yesterday how nice my hair is looking again, not brittle, it is shiny and look healthy. I would normally have done another dye job by now, but the roots arent showing anymore and i just have, what looks like highlights where the brassiness is showing where is hasn't grown out yet. I have a graduated bob though, so quicker to grow out.

Sorry this turned out long, but i think the permanent dyes can damage hair, so perhaps try with a non-permanent one and see if it helps any. Its taken about 6-7 months for it to start looking decent again. I really don't think there is a quick fix.

I am just about to buy some man n tail. It gets rave reviews!
