Ive been dying to ask somebody this but too ashamed as it makes me feel old and past it! lol. These perfectly shaped almost 'painted' on eyebrows women are sporting these days, is it achieved with an eyebrow pencil or are they tatooed on?. Wheres all the fuzz gone? plucked off beforehand???

Yes - they're horrible! No idea how they're done, I like mine thick and really neat - get them threaded.

shirleybasseyslovechild · 12/04/2015 23:06

both.
either pencilled or tattooed but with most or all of real brows waxed off.
revolting

MargotLovedTom · 12/04/2015 23:07

HD brows. I'm frightened to try them.

MargotLovedTom · 12/04/2015 23:09

I like them on here, but I worry I'd end up with a Scouse brow effect.

So what are hd brows?. It looks downright scary sometimes, like a tranny whos trying too hard to look like a woman.

Aren't a lot of these brows done with stencils? I've seen kits with different shaped stencils, brow colour and brush demonstrated on a shopping channel and even though it seems a ridiculous idea they look quite effective. Seems a good idea if you're not confident to do it freehand, it's just the people who go over the top with the exaggerated shape and colour who make it look ridiculous.

KoalaDownUnder · 13/04/2015 07:04

If you google 'HD brows', there are YouTube promo clips of people getting them done.

It's some ridiculous process with about six stages, at the end of which you look like someone has taken to you with a can of spray paint and a stencil.

Agree with MrsGolightly that 'thick and neat' is the way to go. Too thinned out = ageing and out of date, and HD brows = ridiculous/transvestite.

LordEmsworth · 13/04/2015 09:49

Erm, I get HD brows and no-one has ever said I look like a transvestite Confused. They are much more likely to say "your brows look amazing, how do I get brows like those".

HD brows = (as far as I can make out they are v secretive about the "7 steps") tinting, so they're an even colour (and covers my greys!); waxing, to get rid of the hairy but underneath/in between; trimming, so there aren't any long stragglies; threading, to make the edges softer and tidy up strays; plucking, plucking and more plucking. the plucking bit is painful and the first time it seemed to go on forever. There is a specific shape for HD brows so they pluck them into that shape (which I would guess won't suit everyone but works fine for me).

I feel so polished after I have my brows done, it's amazing how much difference it makes. I started off years ago just getting them "shaped" at a salon (waxing & plucking) once a month; I've worked my way through threading (more painful than wax, but better finish & longer lasting ime), then added tinting - which really lifted my whole face - to HD.

If you try a shape and/or tint in a salon once and hate it, they'll be back to where they were in 6-8 weeks maximum - your eyebrows (and lashes) renew themselves every 6-8 weeks. So it's a short-term risk if you want to try something different... If you like it then you can pluck to the shape of it yourself when it starts to grow back, it's not something that you have to keep up with regular salon visits or lose it forever.

Depending on what type of brow you want to create there are various steps including;
wax or pluck so that the brows have a neat shape
brush into place
draw your outline with a pencil (waxy)
fill in any gaps with pencil
outline with pomade/gel such as 'Anastasia Beverly Hills'
fill in and darken with pomade/gel
set with brow gel or moose (can be clear or coloured and keeps the hairs in place and gives that glossy look)
highlight (using concealer) under and over arch
If you're older, you may want to skip a lot of these steps!

Aberchips · 13/04/2015 10:22

Another convert to HD brows here too. As LordEmsworth says it's quite a long drawn out process initially but then afterwards you just maintain them which involves the tinting & shaping. You have the option of buying the special make up (pencils/ powders/gels etc) I bought a brow palette which includes a powder & wax for shading & shaping.

I was reluctant to start with but a friend got them done & didn't look too scary! I've had loads of compliments on them & everyone has said they are still natural looking, just "better".

If you donm't want to go the whole hog you could try getting them tinted & shaped then buy a pencil/ eyebrow kit & defining them a bit more.

Oops, sorry Blush

I think maybe I have only seen really awful HD brows...probably there are some lovely ones out there that I don't know are HD when I see them? (Does that even make sense? Confused)
