Wedding and engagement rings

I have had my engagement ring for 4 years and my wedding band for 2. At the time of getting them I was 2 stone heavier and now I've lost weight they are too big.

I have had the engagement band resized in January and it fitted perfectly. Now in April it is spinning around again on my finger. The wedding band is very big but doesn't side off because the engagement band sits on top and is smaller.

I would have them both resized but I am worried my fingers will get bigger again when I am pregnant. My knuckles are much wider than my finger and so they can't become more smaller or I won't be able to get them off- but the diamond is constantly spinning round and it is driving me mad so I keep taking them both off!

Any advice? I really want to wear them but they are really annoying me!

you can buy ring inserts that make your ring smaller, but can be removed, If you need them bigger again. Not sure how good they are, but worth a try.

Ooo thanks Abi- I will google them and have a look.

I am just so annoyed that my fingers seem to have shrunk so much! My knuckles are still boney- it's the fleshy bit at the bottom that seems to have got skinny!

If you speak to your jeweller they can put sizing beads on the inside of your ring - small balls of gold that are soldered in. They are easily removed at a later date if need be.

This will stop the rings spinning. It takes a couple of days to get used to the feeling but I've had two sizing balls in my engagement ring for over a year and don't notice them at all.

Thanks Ruby.

It is a Tiffany's ring so have to go back down to London to get anything done to it. Might do it over the summer holidays as we don't regularly visit London.

Just a thought Ruby- will I still be able to get it on? My knuckles are considerably larger than my fingers and so the ring has to be big enough to get over them, but then it spins!

Yes, you should be ok. I turn the ring slightly to get it over my knuckle. Tiffany might have other ideas but the balls don't really change the size of the ring significantly. They do stop a top-heavy ring from sliding sideways by positioning it properly on your finger. Mine still slides sideways if I'm very cold but much better than when I first got the ring.

Thank you. I will head down and see what they say. It's only £50 for a resize so might end up sizing it down and then sizing back up again if I do get pregnant'

I think for some styles - engagement style rings - you can only have them re-sized by 3 sizes either way as it can weaken the structure of the ring. I've no idea if this is the case for modern rings or just antique rings though.

The ring bumps are great though and work a treat.

My mum got the ring bumps added. She had skinny fingers but arthritic knuckles, the worked really well for her.
