frizzy hair help

I'm having a nightmare with my frizzy hair & thought I'd see what wise MNetters thought. My hair is shoulder length & has highlights in it. I used to have it professionally blow dried each week and it looked fab when it was straight but can't afford that anymore. I dished out for a straightener (the iron thing) but frankly I look as if I've been electrified.

What would you advise so that my hair can look neat & pretty for work, not the flat on the top & frizzy everywhere nightmare it does now? I want advise on shampoos that you've found worked (affordable please) and maybe hair products. I use a Aveda straightening product and moroccan oil shampoo / conditioner atm but not much use, in fact frizzier than ever.

I use argan oil heat protector from the pound shop, and then avon serum. I have very damaged frizzy hair and find that it doesn't matter about what shampoo conditioner etc I use, as long as I use a heat protector before straightening, then a serum, it's fine.

I have very curly below shoulder length hair which tends to frizz a lot & was ready to cut it all off (again) but short curly hair is even harder work so started using L'Oreal Hair Expertise shampoo & conditioner which are Non-Sulphate & then Label M curl cream...you have to put the curl cream on when your is dripping wet out of the shower, I don't even towel dry mine & usually get 2-3 days with no frizz unless I'm ironing, then it's very frizzy ?? I had straightened it for years with lowlights & had to cut it very short because of the damage & regrow it...

I've recently purchased the new Garnier Ultimate Blends Sleek Perfector and it's like the miracle product. My hair is long, course, curly, frizzy and I'm a red head. It's completely tamed now.

I'm going shampoo free and washing it just once a week..the rest of the time finger combing in the morningsto seperate curls and detangle and hand damping with either argan oil or drop of leave in conditioner. The less I mess with it, the better it looks. I have it trimmed every 4 weeks without fail to limit sprit ends. I have not used a hairbrush for several yeats, preferring to use an afrocomb.

I added a little of the body shop's beautifying oil to my bottle of pretty useless superdrug coconut conditioner and my hair kept some lovely curls and ringlets in for the day. My hair started to feel greasy when using it every wash though but was great for the odd days when I wanted/needed to feel good! :)

I have naturally curly hair and agree the herbal essences or any other silicone or sulphate free shampoos or conditioners really tame frizz, along with drying naturally. I also use Paul Mithell frizz tamerr, a bit pricier but very good. Also any mousse for curly hair seems to work ??

Haven't read everything above, apologies for a repeat.

I have almost afro hair, and have started following the curly girl method and it works a treat. No more shampoo, wash with conditioner, argon oil, no brushing, SLS free gel (I use umberto gianini) and an antifrizz cream.

I twist my curls and diffuse dry 80%.

Never felt better :-)

I've struggled with awful frizzy hair my whole life until a few months ago when I started following The Curly Girl method same as PP.
My hair used to be a bit wavy but a huge, frizzy, fluffy mess.

I've adjusted the method to best suit me and my hair is now incredibly curly, soft and shiny.

I use Palmers olive oil Co-Wash, followed by Palmers olive oil conditioner applied to soaking wet hair. Comb it through.
Then I "squish to condish" (you'll have to Google because I don't know how to explain it!) And lastly, with hair still soaking wet I then apply Umberto Giannini Curly gel and comb that through.
Then I "plop" (tip head upside down and lower hair onto) a cotton t shirt which I wrap around my head for half an hour then leave to naturally dry and DO NOT TOUCH.

If nothing else, try combing instead of brushing.

Thank you for all the amazing suggestions! Following some of the ideas here, I've now ordered the herbal essences sulphute free 'naked' shampoo & conditioner. I've also ordered the Aussie leave in conditioner.

And finally I remembered a product that used to do miracles for my hair (plus it smells divine) and reordered it Liz Earle nourishing hair oil More on the pricey side but lasts for absolute ages and really worth it. Doesn't make hair oily at all, it's kind of a 'dry oil' if that makes sense and as I said smells beautiful.

I'll let you know how I get on. I'm ditching my Morocccan Oil shampoo & conditioner in the bin once the Herbal Essence products arrive as they really don't agree with my hair.

Aussie range of conditioners is good. Two days a week (usually Sat and Sun) I don't wash my hair, but put a conditioning mask on and leave it on all day. At least two more days a week I don't use shampoo, just rinse the hair and then condition. I'm naturally curly and like the John Frieda serums, despite their silicon content. Always always let it dry naturally. And of course coconut oil.

Knittingbat · 15/04/2015 10:10

Yy to pp saying ditch the sls and silicones! I used to look like Douglas from magic roundabout, now super sleek. Wash hair in tesco coconut conditioner (actually wash it with this - 80p so go nuts, slather it on and give a good old scrub, leave a few minutes if poss but I rarely do now) then condition with the one loreal everiche that specifically says silicone free on front. Usu on sale somewhere.
