Moisturiser for dry sensitive skin

Has anyone got any suggestions for a moisturiser for dry sensitive skin? I'm fair (Irish genes) I burn easily in the sun. My skin can feel itchy and tight with a lot of products and there's lots I can't use - anything with too many harsh chemicals, beeswax or coconut by-products. I've spent loads trying to find poducts that don't irritate my skin and I'm stuck to know what to try next

I use Simple Regeneration. It's unperfumed, rich without being sticky and has an SPF of 15. RRP is around £6.99 but it is on offer quite often and sometimes you can pick it up for as low as £2.50.

I have the same problem as you and love love love Simple.

Might not help but when I was pg with DD (12 years ago) my skin got so painful and sensitive in the winter , I couldn't even bear plain water. My cheeks were red with tiny 'criss cross' fissures on them.

Out of desperation in a late night supermarket dash, I bought Almay moisturiser. Godsend.

I don't know if Almay even exists now, but it saved my skin (literally)

I currently use a cream from the pharmacy called double base as it's the only thing that doesn't make my skin burn! I think it may have changed it's name recently though but if you are the pharmacist I'm sure he'll know which one it is.

ask not are

Have you tried diprobase or epaderm? It totally fixed mine and DC's dry skin problems by putting it on after washing. It's not greasy or oily either, it just gives your skin a bit more moisture.

honeybeeplusone · 11/04/2015 21:27

Perhaps try using creams which are designed for people suffering from eczema? The creams moisturise very well and are very gentle on the skin and with no chemicals. There is a wide selection on the market - I use Epaderm cream.

I've found wheat helps best keep my skin hydrated is to bath in e45 kids bath stuff. It contains petroleum jelly so is moisturising but without being greasy (kids one is much cheaper than adults and oilatum which it the same ingredients).

DaveMinion · 11/04/2015 21:29

What not wheat. Chuffing autocorrect. The rest is just bad typing lol

bigfam · 11/04/2015 21:31

Try oilatum junior cream, it's for newborns and children, my lo has absolutely beautiful skin from using it.

I have dry/sensitive skin and eczema and I use either Avon Reversalist 40+ or Olay Total Effects.

Karbea · 12/04/2015 12:22

I'm on day 3 of using cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser, I'm really liking them so far, could be worth a try for you. My skin is very sensitive, dry, prone to breakouts.

VilootShesCute · 12/04/2015 12:27

Rio Rosa Mosqueta Pure rosehip oil. Can't use anything else. It's great for sensitive skin.

hugoagogo · 12/04/2015 12:35

Eucerin works really well and has made a difference to my skin when nothing else has. this one

rosiepinkcheeks · 12/04/2015 12:36

Avene Ciclafate is very good for dry sensitive skin.

Bluejumperandbluejeans · 12/04/2015 12:56

Thanks everyone - I'm checking them out today
Any more?

Face or body? Either way, are you avoiding foaming products? You need a non-foaming cleanser and soap-free and SLS-free shower gel - it's the lather that dries your skin out.

Bolshybookworm · 12/04/2015 13:09

I have dry sensitive skin (gets tight, itchy and sore in winter) but eczema creams on my face would give me spots.
The best creams I've tried have been avene for dry skin, eucerin (can't remember which one but it's specifically for your face) and Nivea pure night regenerating cream for dry skin. The Nivea one is dirt cheap too. All were under £15 and all were better than anything I've tried from more expensive brands (which don't seem to cater well for dry skin). Clarins, Clinique, ren, Lancôme, Estée Lauder - I've tried them all and none were any good (although they smelled nice!).

Nivea do particularly good body lotion for dry skin too.

Steam cream is awesome for dry, sensitive skin. I use it when my eczema flares.

Other products I rate are neutrogena dry skin facial moisturiser, dirty works cream (in the tub), soap and glory bb cream, olay touch of sunshine...

I don't rate simple. It disappears on my skin, leaving it as dry as ever.

It seems to be an very individual thing unfortunately. The only stuff that is totally safe for my skin seems to be oil. It doesn't sound as if coconut oil would work for you but I've also used almond, wheatgerm and olive oil (light to avoid the salad bowl smell). I've been alternating these for a couple of years now and (fingers crossed) haven't had a reaction.

I do use a sunscreen on top. At the moment I'm using Ultrasun Face (for sensitive skin) which smells a bit chemical but is otherwise ok.

Bluejumperandbluejeans · 12/04/2015 20:03

Thanks Smile Kundry it's for the face.

I have similar skin I think. After seeing a dermatologist I have been using La Roche Posay for a couple of years. It's reasonably priced and my skin has never looked better. I know some ppl on here have had problems with it but I really like it.
