Anyone really REALLY good at shoe shopping? I have awkward feet needs!

OK, thanks in advance if anyone can actually find the miracle shoes I need! Have got to the point where I can dress half decently until you get to the ankles, but I'm down to 2 pairs of trainer-ish shoes to wear with any outfit and I look frumpy and ridiculous most of the time.

Please MN S&B'ers can I have;

A pair of shoes that can be worn with my maxi dresses - one is a light bluey turqoise and the other is a turqoise with a sort of pinky paisley pattern on,
Another pair that can be worn with slouchy casual navy and/or black trousers (not sure how to describe them but like slightly smarter jogging bottoms),
And a pair that will go with smart casual black trousers
(I work from home so none of these need to be office smart)

The myriad of problems/requirements to picking these pairs are;

They need to be good quality and last through lots of wear - have no car so walk a LOT
They need to be comfy for size 7 wide-ish (but not wide enough I need really special fittings, just not extra narrow!) feet that seem to get corns or blisters at the slightest opportunity
No or quite low heel as I have a tendency to trip or twist my ankle if given half a chance
No showing of toes as mine look like nasty hobbitses
No shoes with no back so I don't fling them off towards innocent passers-by
On a budget of about 40-50 quid a pair max
And lastly please can they not look frumpy!

Is this all possible?

Are you sure you want shoes with your maxi dresses? I think sandals would work better...

leccybill · 10/04/2015 21:44

I tried these Clarks flats on yesterday. So comfy and soft buttery leather. Like them in the blush colour too.

I love the look of sandals squiz but my toes are honestly not at all suitable for public viewing, am working on them but it's very slow going - do nice closed toe sandals exist? Those are very nice leccy, might have to pop into Clarks!

I found a page of shoes that might work for you but they're all too expensive, sadly. Still, worth a look to see if there are some in there that might be worth going over budget for?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/04/2015 22:12

Do you think these are frumpy? I don't but what do I know...

Thisishowyoudisappear · 11/04/2015 05:27

Check out Clarks, they have some good closed toe sandals this summer and a lot of styles have a choice of fit. Some are 20% off at the moment.

Loafers from marks and Spencer's? I like this type.
They also have low heal grey and beige boots for your maxi dresses
Perhaps suede would look nice
I don't have wide feet particularly but I go down half a size and wear the m and s wide fit shoes and it suits me better. I also walk a lot and find the quality good and long lasting
Good luck

mysteryfairy · 11/04/2015 08:53

This might not be for you as you mention having trainerish shoes already but I like a proper trainer with a maxi dress. I think converse hi tops or ash Virgin work well. I also have some Adidas gazelles that look good with a maxi skirt. There's loads of love going on this summer for Adidas Stan smiths and superstars too. Obviously all have the benefit of being comfy, enclosed and roughly on budget!

Re the blistering/getting corns, buy this:

www.boots.com/en/Kiwi-Shoe-Passion-Foot-Silk-100ml_1549482/

I have the world's feeblest feet - every pair of new shoes ripped them to shreds, rubbing, blisters etc, but the Kiwi stuff is amazing!

burnishedsilver · 11/04/2015 09:01

You're feet are how they are. Women have enough body issues without thinking their toes are unattractive. Get a pedicure and try on some birkinstocks and fit flops. The fit flops aren't the most stylish but they have some nicer newer styles and they really are comfortable to walk in.

herecomesthsun · 11/04/2015 09:20

more closed toe sandals quite like Rieker at £33

thisissohard · 11/04/2015 09:53

Birkenstocks and Converse. Now, you just need to decide which colours to go for!!

OopTheShard · 11/04/2015 09:55

I second getting a proper pedicure and embracing your feet!

As well as fitflops and birkenstocks suggested above - Next, M&S, Clarks and Ecco all do some fairly pretty styles of sandal that are flat, properly comfy, suitable for wider feet and walkable in. You could wear a pair of nude, metallic or white sandals with the maxi dresses AND the slouchy trousers, and if you got a nice low wedge sandal too, you could wear those with the office trousers for a smarter look

Other than that - what about some Converse or Vans in complimentary colours to wear with your slouchy trousers?

Or some chunkier ballerinas with a strap? The ones with the spongier soles? I think next have some. (I find proper ballerinas rub and also fly off my feet).

www.robineltshoes.co.uk has a lot of comfortable brands, you can search by colour, price, width fitting, heel height etc.
