Coconut oil for hair?

My scalp is quite dry at the moment and my hair could do with some moisture in it too. Ive seen a couple of things lately about using coconut oil as a hair treatment. Which is the best way to use it?. Thanks in advance Smile .

I did this once, just warmed it in my hands and put it on like conditioner. Left it for 20 mins and rinsed. Only make sure before you start that you actually have hot water left and your DH hasn't used the last of it Grin

It works pretty well as an overnight treatment as well if you wrap it up!

I did this once overnight, extremely messy and didn't make any difference. I would try a different shampoo for your scalp, I love the kerastase exfoliating shampoo for dry hair. Comes in a white bottle with a long nozzle. About £15

I use it as a weekly intensive treatment. I use the Groovy Food Company one you can get from Tesco. A couple of teaspoonfuls or so, warmed gently in hands and smoothed through lengths of dry hair and combed through. Use enough that your hair resembles an oil slick Grin it washes out fine so don't worry! I usually do it before breakfast, so it has half an hour or so to soak in before I wash it. Shampoo as normal twice, then condition as normal. Leaves hair thicker and stronger - not necessarily shinier, if your hair isn't in need of the moisture element, but the protein will strengthen it and leave it much better condition in the long run. Very good for scalp health too.

I sometimes do it in summer as an overnight treatment or while I'm at the beach under a scarf. It's good for your hair but not particularly moisturizing, iyswim. After a treatment my hair is shiny and strong but a bit rough, not silky smooth like after a normal conditioner. I have no problem getting it out - I put shampoo onto dry hair, massage it in and then wet it and shampoo as normal. If I really slather it on I shampoo twice.
