Pigmentation on Face - help!

Hi,
I went for a facial yesterday and the therapist commented on pigmentation on my skin. I knew I had a little on my top lip and under eyes but she thought that it might be getting worse. I use a combination of products on my skin as it is combination and would be probe to break outs - I use Dermologica daily microfoilant, decleor toner and decleor hydra floral light moisturiser (not sure if this has spf). Beauty Therapist says I need to use products to combat pigmentation - can any of you recommend any? The products she recommended were Dermologica...the serum alone is £79!! I really would like to stop this getting worse.

Help anyone?

Indeed Labs Pepta-bright serum. It's £25 (I think), but there's usually an offer on.

Anything that shows up on the skin, is usually coming from the inside. Do you have any digestive issues? It might be worth looking into vitamin D levels, omega 3, antioxidants...

I've been to the doctor about mine. First I was give a special facial shampoo which didn't help. Then I was given tablets last year. I was told they would kill the infection but it could take a year for the colour to return to normal.
And now that I've been out and caught a wee bit of sun, the patches are showing again. In the summer they are really bad.

I have bad pigmentation (steroids) and I've been using the Indeed Labs Pepta-bright for a year or so now - it certainly hasn't removed it completely, but it is getting better. It's always on 3 for 2 at Boots, so I usually get a couple of tubes of that and one of Hydraluron.

I've also really upped my SPF to stop it getting any worse - I'm liking Clinique City Block at the moment as I wear it as a layer underneath foundation or tinted moisturiser and it provides an extra layer of coverage as well as SPF.

Do you have brownish hyperpigmentation spots or flecks? Daily high SPF is the best thing you can do to take care of that type of hyperpigmentation. Mine fades in a few months without any interrvention. The key is to stop it from recurring. Do not rely on moisturizer with SPF, that's total crap (I originally got hyperpigmentation from using SPF 15 moisturizer in strong sunlight), go for a proper facial sunscreen, I use SPF 50. I use it daily under makeup, if I'm a bit lax it's right back.

And this is definitely an issue that comes from the outside from sun exposure. Hyperpigmentation spots make the skin look aged - so when they fade you will look much younger.

Thanks. I definitely need to use a sun block as I do not think the Decleor moisturiser contains sunscreen. What would be the best one to use and do you use it under first and then apply moisturiser and foundation? I notice brown patches under my eye and at the corner of my eye and also on my upper lip so anything that helps to prevent it getting worse or disappearing would be great. Has anyone tried Eucerin? Just wondered what you all think of that. I see the Indeed Pepta-bright is on offer so might give that a try.

Eucerin has various sun products, generally like their products, the paret company Beiersdorf makes Nivea that is a great sunscreen. I used the Eucerin SPF 15 moisturizer on my neck earlier this spring but noticed today that I have to start using a proper high SPF sunscreen because sunlight is much stronger now. There was a good thread here yesterday about facial sunscreens with great suggestions, worth checking out!

I think it's only laser type treatment that will help this.

Think about it - if someone told you that you could get rid of a mole by rubbing cream on it, you'd think they were talking mumbo-jumbo voodoo.

Fabulassie · 10/04/2015 15:14

Retin A, besides clearing acne and reducing wrinkles, will lighten dark spots. Perhaps not the sort of pigmentation the OP has (I don't know enough about it) but it is use for that purpose.

LS24 · 13/04/2015 11:33

Thanks. I will definitely look into a good facial suncream and also try some of these suggestions. I would try anything to stop it getting worse!

Ultrasun spf 50 anti pigmentation face is good. You put it on once a day and it should protect you all day. The sun really brings out mine so use it as soon as it gets sunny.

I also use decleor.

It's caused by sun damage. I've been using La Roche Posay dark spot corrector serum for a few months now, it has AHAs and my pigmentation has almost gone. The improvement was fairly rapid. It's about £35 but there are regular promotions on Escentual which reduce the price.
You will need an spf as well because the product contains AHAs and also to stop the pigmentation getting worse. I use La Roche Posay anthelios spf50 as it's really light and easy to wear under make up. They do a really nice tinted one as well.

Chemical peels are also supposed to remove the pigmentation so may be worth looking into.
