I need a bra-tervention

I am wearing a bandeau dress with a lace overlay to my sister's wedding and need a good strapless bra, or maybe one with removable clear straps. I also need shapewear that won't budge (previous purchases have rolled down, which I imagine is the fault of the wearer, not the product), as I usually wear one of those wear-your-own-bra yokes that also has straps.

I normally wear a Panache tango in 36G and I am a size 16. I don't expect shapewear to reduce my girth, just to avoid lines as the dress is clingy-ish

Over to you, oh wise ones!

dress is similar on top to one in pic. Actual dress is floor length and the lace just covers the top half

Have you tried a Wonderbra strapless? It was the only thing that held my huge norks in place!

As for sharewear, I find it rolls down on everyone. The trick for me was the get one that I could put on and then put my bra on over so it held up up Smile

I have never tried Wonderbra, in my ignorance I always thought it would make my boobs look even bigger, and I'd end up looking like the Governess in The Chase. I will have a look online to see where stocks locally.

Are they comfy? It's so long since I went strapless, and have memories of bras slipping south as the day went on

Good tip re shapewear, do you mean hoke it up under the boobs, and then put bra on, so that bra is pinning it in place?

Now have visions of shape wear rolling down, dragging bra with it. Oh God. Not a pretty picture!

I use a brilliant one from TK Maxx. It's like a low cut vest but very lightweight. Can wear it over boobs or pull down to below the bra line. Great thing is the length,, it comes well below the tum. Just gently smooths. It's better than a stronger one I have, same shape, but feels like it's choking me!

cailineile · 10/04/2015 10:37

LadyB49 that is the kind of thing I am looking for, but does it have clear straps? I think even nude straps will look shite under the lace, and I can possibly get away with those clear plasticy ones.

Right, so far I am off to Debenhams on Saturday to try Wonderbra, and I will have a look at their shapewear and maybe M&S and TK Maxx (which I'd never have thought off, so thanks LadyB49) too.

love this video as it shows you if you are wearing the right size, cup etc. more than 80% of women wear the wrong size bra.

I guess more so important for you if you are looking at strapless...

cailineile · 10/04/2015 11:02

ooh thanks for the link. I got measured recently, which is how I ended up in a 36G instead of the totally wrong size I'd been wearing Blush no wonder I looked like a hunchback. I will go back to that lingerie store too, forgot I'd been there! The lady was very helpful at the time.

Cailinelle that is exactly what I meant, I know my description wasn't the best! They didn't make me look any bigger (I don't think!) but they dip quite low at the front so gave me a bit of a cleavage. I think comfort wise they were for me, but not for everyone. I was a bra fitter and had a few people complain about the band digging in around the ribcage.

It does have quite a thick band on the bottom, I think to ensure that everything stays up and doesn't travel south. With a skintight dress you could sometimes see the line but with floaty dresses it was ok!

cailineile · 10/04/2015 11:27

Jumblebee, thanks again. I think your description was pretty spot-on. I am known for taking things up wrongly though, and was afraid I'd make some gaff! Family wedding is not the day to realise your pants don't fit.

The wonderbra ultimate is excellent. It runs a wee bit snug in the back, so I would also suggest trying a 38FF and 38G just to be on the safe side. Doesn't make mine look bigger but is the only decent strapless I've found. The other good options are the Freya Deco Strapless and the Curvy Kate (I think it's called the Luxe but wouldn't swear to it!)

For the pants, spanx higher power. They come from bra to mid thigh, not pretty but extremely effective. I tuck the top of mine under my bra band

bravissimo does for curvy women with larger cups. :)

definitely worth the investment!

cailineile · 10/04/2015 12:02

Thank you to all! I will arm myself with a list and head off in the morning.
It is a mammoth task, with endless possibilities!

DH will possibly probably notbuy a new pair of pants and socks to wear under the shirt/suit he wears to all family functions.
