Which make up label for a bride?

Afternoon All. I've just been invited to a bridal makeover at John Lewis in prep for my wedding. I can chose from one of the following brands;

  • Clarins
  • guerlain
  • Lancôme
  • Nars
  • YSL
  • Laura Mercier
  • Estée Lauder

Any thoughts on which might be best as I know nothing about makeup I'm pushing 40; sort of fair complexion; early summer wedding; not confident with make up; I'd like something that looks fairly natural, good base, smoky eyes sort of thing. Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Don't kniw about bridal particularly but I love Lancôme make up - fabulous quality and very luxurious.

I think most make up brands are good nowadays and it is more to do with finding which consultant does things how you like

Sorry, going to look like I haven't RTFT but just sharing my experience and would go with none of the above. Went to a Bobbi Brown makeover at John Lewis before my own wedding and found that while the assistant was very nice I felt odd and rushed sitting in the middle of the shop and the make up artist was lovely and good at the make up but was keeping one eye on customers and it all felt very 'meh'. Bought one thing out of guilt/obligation then got out of there asap, was so disappointed.

Then a few days later had a MAC makeover, which I'd initially avoided (hence going to Bobbi Brown) as people had said the makeup was to heavy, they'd overdo it etc but had the best experience. Only drawback is it's not totally free like the John Lewis one, they charge #50 for a 90 min bridal makeover BUT you can use that against products after, so you're really spending #50 on products and getting the makeover free. It was a standalone MAC shop (have heard the department store counters are a totally different kettle of fish) so very quiet, the makeup artist couldn't have been more attentive and was absolutely fab, took time to make sure she did exactly what I wanted and what would suit me and there was no pressure to spend over the #50 at the end. Am absolutely converted to MAC too now, asked her not to do anything too heavy and she did a nice light but still 'made up' look and was honest about what I didn't need, eg recommended no primer as my skin apparently doesn't need it, didn't try to put 30 products on with a trowel or anything. Was brilliant and when I booked in they offered to book me in for the morning of my wedding, quite happy to be used as a 'makeup artist for cheap' but I wanted to see the look first and do it myself on the day. Would really recommend going for MAC if you're intending to buuy products anyway.

I was also going to suggest bobbi brown before I saw the list. It is really good quality long-lasting stuff and in my experience the counter ladies are good. It is what I used (mostly).

I was going to say Bobbi brown but that's not in your list. Out of those I'd probably go for nars as they are well known for great highlighters, foundations and blushers

Riley2015 · 11/04/2015 19:46

I wore Bobbi Brown for my wedding.

Charitygirl1 · 11/04/2015 20:27

All nice brands, but for a 'flawless' bridal look without strong colours I'd go for Laura Mercier

BuntyCollocks · 11/04/2015 21:41

I wore bobbi brown for our wedding, but if I was doing it again, I'd go for nars - it's amazing stuff.

The Clarins lady in Boots once said to me that their ethos is 'Not to make people orange' I don't necessarily think their stuff is the HG, butvI do think they go for the your skin but better approach. Steer well clear of the Tango'd Estee Lauder ones.
I would love to try Guerlain as I think they are near the top of the top ranges.
