Any ideas for thickening hair and strengthening nails please?

My hair seems to be feeling really fine at the minute and my nails just wont seem to grow (which i partly put down to work). Is there any supplements, herbal remedies (or even shampoos for hair) that may help with my hair and nails?
Many thanks in advance

No idea about supplements but my dreadfully weak nails (they used to flake very badly) have been mightily improved by rubbing Vaseline into them every night. It really has worked.

I take Sea Kelp for hair and nails and is also good for your metabolism. Although you cant take it if you have thyroid problems.

I've found Nourkrin works brilliantly for me - it's so expensive though, so I tried halving the dose and it still seems to do the trick. Smile

I recommend you take Biotin, can get from Holland and Barrett

MummyBtothree · 09/04/2015 15:59

Nourkrin post pregnancy tablets are AMAZING for any woman who has ever given birth. Having kids causes havoc with your hair and nails. I take these regularly as I have thin fine hair and its worked wonders. Read the reviews online about it. I would soooooo recommended them! Smile

Coat some Mavala on your nails and they'll be super hard in no time OP Smile

Can't help with hair thickening though, does such a thing really exist? I have a pony tail about the thickness of a pencil Sad

Garnier Fibrology shampoo and conditioner is fantastic for thickening hair. The more you use it,the thicker your hair gets. It does work. It's in turquoise bottles.

wannabslim · 09/04/2015 18:43

Thank you for that....i will try that shampoo and conditioner too

Sorry, I've just realised that it's Elvive not Garnier.

TheGirlFromIpanema · 09/04/2015 21:56

Get yourself knocked up Grin

My hair has never been so thick and lush!

It really depends on the reason WHY your hair and nails are like that. It could be deficiencies of macro (protein, fat, carbs) or micro (vitamins, minerals) deficiencies, or other imbalances in the body, e.g. hypothyroid.
Try a good multivitamin and a probiotic. I also really like the Vit+ tincture from Fushi Wellbeing, it's a nice blend of nutritious herbs.

I haven't tried it but I saw in the John Frieda range a spray which said hair thickness which last 10 days. It was 9.99.

SnotQueen · 10/04/2015 12:47

A multivitamin - but give it a good while tp start working I.e. dont give up after a few weeks.
Also, there is a ponytail trick, is there not? A way to make it look thicker? Using a clip or kirby or something?
Also, that Elvive shampoo is amazing - I use it on my normal thickness hair and I feel like a hair advert. Shame the rest of me lets me down Sad

My MIL got her flaky rubbish nails sorted with a magnesium supplement. She says it was a miracle as they have always been a problem. She tried some other supplement before that to no avail.

FrugalFashionista · 10/04/2015 12:51

Oh and I had clumps of hair fall out in midwinter, have been taking a biotin + methionine supplement all winter long and feel it has helped quite a bit.

wannabslim · 10/04/2015 13:47

my hair falls out too Frugal, but i put this down to it possibly been coloured, and the fact that i have to wear it up for work, so i think that causes breakages!

I follow a really healthy eating plan (slimming world) so i thought i would be getting plenty of vitamins and proteins in my diet to be honest.

Im definately trying biotin and the Elvive. Thanks ladies xx

Iron in the form of ferris sulphate. Most women with hair loss have low iron

Allie82 · 11/04/2015 11:22

Biotin is said to be good but it made my skin really spotty. I recommend solar oil for nails it makes a big difference to mine and as for thickening hair, sounds weird but have you tried a volumizing dry shampoo??
