Travelling in a couple of weeks for the my first visit. DH will be working but I will be seeing old friends who are very glam and for once I would like to not to look The knackered mum of three that I really am!

Some sight seeing, brunch, beach and shopping is planned. Help please oh stylish ones, especially dress code for brunch?!

Don't know about Dubai but I went for an outdoor lunch in France - everyone very smart in beige and off white, mostly linen, with a touch of navy. I was in my nice red top and skirt errr rrrr. I do suit oyster so will do that in future with a touch of ethnic or gold jewelry.

Loose trousers seem fashionable if you suit them.

Thanks, feel quite inspired by the harems thread so may give those a go!

I went to Dubai about 6 years ago now, it's beautiful and will really enjoy it. How about some nice Maxi Dresses, smart linen trousers, with a pretty top and cardi if you need to cover up. Though they are getting more western, and i didn't feel that uncomfortable when walking around the malls with shorts on etc...
Indoors tend to be very well air-conditioned (to a point i got cold, lol) so i would bring a light cardigan, or shawl/ scarf. You get some nice ones in Accessorize. Or a nice knee length skirt and i nice top. Hope you have a great time Grin

It can be quite glam even in the day depending where you go. It is still quite conservative and while in western hotels strappy tops etc are fine I would not recommend being in public places with your shoulder uncovered or wearing anything too revealing. We were having dinner at the one of the very upmarket hotels and the lady on the next table was wearing a strappy dress the waiter came behind her and and put a pashmina over her shoulders apparently one of the Arab men eating the restaurant had complained and it was quite an international hotel as well.

Sorry meant to add have a fab time it's a really amazing place even if only to people watch :)

It's getting up to 40 degrees out here at the moment - and the humidity is rising. So your summer wardrobe! But as Buttwing says, be conscious of the local culture. Anything you can look up, down or through is inadvisable - and keep your shoulders and ideally your knees covered too if you go to a mall - lots of people wear incredibly skimpy outfits, but increasingly people are being asked to respect the local culture.

Enjoy ...

Brunch is very glam, you will need a really nice dress for this.
In general people dress up more than at a usual holiday destination, probably just because there is a lot more money floating around!
Linen trousers or harems with t shirt good for covering up in the mall.
Have a brilliant time!!

I second trulymadlydeeply. I wore maxi dresses/skirts/ blouses/linen trousers and in some restaurants I was asked to wear closed toe shoes.

Lots of the malls have signs at the entrance asking you to dress 'respectfully' - ie shoulders and knees covered. You can probably get away with less, but it's not a great idea. It's fine to wear normal swimwear on the beach or at the pool, but you'll need to put clothes on to go to the bar or cafe.

Agree with the comment about fierce aircon. When I go to the UAE I spend more time indoors than out and always have a scarf/cardi as I get cold!
