Keratin Brazilian blowdry - am I going to be disappointed?

I'm feeling a bit Confused and Hmm Not sure whether I expected too much?

Yesterday I finally plucked up the courage to have one of those keratin Brazilina blow dry treatments and I am wondering now if I've made a mistake.

I was under the impression that the treatment would be applied and then I'd get my hair blow dried into the shape/style that I like, that the blow dry would 'set' the treatment and that it would pretty much stay like that for at least three months and possibly up to five.

My hair is fine, medium to long, and terribly prone to frizz, especially in humidity. I prefer to get it blow dried it with lots of volume at the roots and to have some swishy bounce and a slight curl to it.

The stylist showed me the brochure for the Kerastase treatment and asked me whether I wanted a straightened/flat finish or whether I preferred my hair naturally wavy and bouncy. I told him I preferred the second.

He cut some off the length (great) added the product and waited 40 mins (great) rough blow dried it (fine) and then proceeded to straighten it with straighteners all over in tiny sections. I presumed this was to 'lock in' the product and activate it, but I didn't expect the final look to be one of flat-ironed poker straight hair. He then did some dry cutting on my layers (great) and that was it - off I went. I asked if I could get a more bouncy voluminous look and he said 'of course, you just blow dry it.'

Confused

But I could always do that anyway, couldn't I? So presumably if I don't bother to blow dry my hair it will just look thin and limp and poker straight, but at least it won't be unruly and frizzy. Is that it? It looks all a bit 'Teenager let loose on the GHDs circa 2005' at the moment, which on my fine hair and given that I am pushing 50 is less than ideal.

I had high hopes of jumping out of bed each morning looking all bouncy and swishy and full of volume. Sad

Your hair will be poker straight when you leave the salmon immediately after the treatment. It needs to be poker straight and left for at least three days before washing.

Your hair won't look like this after you've washed it with a salt-free shampoo, so relax, your hair will only dry poker straight if you finish it off with a straightening iron!

Really? Oh thank goodness! I am all stocked up on sulfate free shampoo etc, and I will not was it for a few days. But it really does look limp and sad at the moment!

I am a big fan of this treatment, However I did find the sulphate free shampoo never really cleansed my hair properly and my hair never felt very fresh. I have since been told by a very professional hairdresser friend that the sulphate free shampoo is a bit of a con to get people to spend more money.

The benefits for me are my hair no longer goes frizzy when I wash it so its easier to blow dry , and I can go out in very damp weather and it just stays straight. I have now moved onto doing it myself at home with a kit from Amazon rather than paying silly salon prices

Well i've been using sulphate free shampoo for about a year now anyway, and it has definitely helped with the frizz and the condition of my hair so I am happy to continue with that regardless. Just a bit disappointed that I will still have to blow dry my hair to get some bounce into it, although hopefully it will be easier/quicker than before.
